Deac6, no offense intended, but if you're playing the Fallout series without anticipating game-breaking bugs, you're doing it wrong. These bugs are the price to be paid for the digital world they build. It's Bethesda's sheepish grin; the answer for each one goes without saying. That's always been the way.
Have you tried rotating four or five save slots? I always overwrite the oldest of my five saves. If I encounter a game breaking bug like you described above, reloading from an old save can occasionally fix the issue.
I bought the game the day after release, but haven't opened it because I'd like to minimize the impact with a few patches before I set out. I'm working through Fallout 3 again, instead. I get why Bethesda has to sell Fallout to the console market, but IMO it's a dangerous move to buy the game on those platforms.
Hell, I modded my Fallout 3, installed both official and unofficial patches, and the damn thing just crashes now and then.
