The new rules for tipping

The shit that bugs me about delivery is the tip on top of a delivery charge. I still do it, but the delivery charge seems to be a fairly recent phenomenon

Domino's drivers make minimum wage. Their pay drops to $3 per hour when they are on the road making deliveries, which is about 1/3 of the hours they work. It drops to $3 since they are working for tips. The delivery charge does not go to the driver.
 
Why do you guys differentiate between cash/card when talking about $1/beer?
$5 beer is going to get a dollar cash, and 20% on a card... still a dollar. If I get two beers, $2.
 
Yes I get that and as I said I still tip appropriately. My first job was at a Domino's, and there wasn't delivery charges then (#old) and they have just been added to keep the "price" of the pizzas where they have historically been. As someone said, if part of the reason for delivery charges was increased fuel costs that started happening 12-13 years ago, they don't seem to be fluctuating when costs go down. Just feels disingenuous. Plus, if the big chains keep the delivery charges high, they certainly could pay their drivers a higher wage.

It's different in two ways. The first is for the bar. they have to pay fees for it. The second is if there is a record of the tip, the server pays taxes on the amount listed. If it's cash, they pay a fixed "assumed" amount which used to be about 8%.
 
I think I tip pretty much according to the list, if not more generously. The only time it gets tricky for me is if I order dinner(s) to go and sit at the bar and drink a pint or two while I am waiting for the food to be prepared. Similarly, if I grab a pint in a bottle shop while picking up an additional 6-12 beers, how do you tip on that?

For me, it's anywhere from 10-18% in the first scenario and 10-15% in the second.
 
Do you tip the convenient store cashier to reach behind him and get you a pack of cigs? Do you tip the deli guy for getting you a pound of turkey?

No, because he makes a (somewhat) living wage. Bartenders are relying on their tips to make their nut. Granted, I've been a bartender and waiter at separate points in my life, so maybe I have a soft spot for those guys. My rule of thumb is 20% for a beer, a full meal, or anything else at a bar/restaurant, unless the service is god awful. If I sit at a bar and drink 10 domestic beers, I better be ready to shell out a buck per.

To be fair, there have been a couple of times where the person working there has been more helpful and guided me on some things to pick up.

I think one the reasons I tip well in those scenarios is imagined guilt. Like at the end of the night, they look at the credit card receipts and say, "this qcdeac was a cheap bastard. He only tipped $3 on $28." So I end up writing 'To-Go' on the receipt, or just tipping a few $ more.
