Wake Forest's own Tommy Elrod caught leaking football information to other teams

So an assistant coach is suspended for an exhibition game. The hammer comes down hard.

This. Give a kid and extra meal, and there are sanctions. Create false classes and nothing. The NCAA has a short window to clean up its mess.

How can they suspend Galloway without suspending other members of the coaching staff? Yes, he was the entry point into the program. But clearly he didn’t get the information and keep it to himself. And anyone on the team having knowledge of the information, is just as guilty as he is. You could argue Petrino didn’t know (which I don’t believe), but based on everything we've heard there’s no way Galloway was the only member of the coaching staff that knew.

You don't find it credible that he wasn't related to anyone in AD?

Institutional tickets don't pay 2/20 these days. Fixed income investments run around 40 bps and long only mutual fund fees are probably around 70-80 bps. Alternatives may be 1.25% and 15% performance but thats not likely since the ticket sizes would command a fee deal. Now, slap on the fees that Verger makes after making the investments and your looking at best a 1% fixed fee on the AUM for Verger. I'm in the business but what do I know....

Even if the asset management fee is substantially less than 1.25% or 1% (let's say it was in the range of 0.3% or 0.5%) it is still a significant amount of money and it is likely that the employees at Verger are well compensated. Verger also charges their other clients asset management and performance fees. I think the point of the discussion was to demonstrate that Verger makes significant revenue from asset management and performance fees and Verger likely paid Elrod very well as the Director of Business Development.

Wake spinning off Verger as a joint venture between the management of the firm and the University is good because Verger can earn additional revenue from other clients and share that revenue with Wake, which should also further reduce or offset Wake's asset management fees.

mid 17th century: from French népotisme, from Italian nepotismo, from nipote ‘nephew’ (with reference to privileges bestowed on the “nephews” of popes, who were in many cases their illegitimate sons).

I'm still waiting for phdeac's long list of failed crony hires who are less virtuous than their MAC alternatives.

Nepotism

1. GENERAL
In order to minimize the potential for conflicts in the workplace, the University has
adopted a nepotism policy to address the hiring of relatives and to address relationships
that may develop after employment.

2. POLICY

a) “Relatives” refers to immediate family members including spouse, child, parent,
sibling, same-sex partner, step-parent, grandparent, in-laws of these, niece, nephew,
aunt, and uncle

MAC alternatives? Not sure what you mean.

I'm not saying anything new or crazy. I mentioned them at the beginning of this thread.

One former assistant didn't get back to IU. I know Knorr is involved. Especially after giving up 600 yards of offense 2/3 games leading up to ours.

Because it's the best way for them to save face and act like they are taking some responsibility while still covering Petrino's ass. If it's multiple members of the staff then there's a greater likelihood of trouble for Petrino.

Of course Knorr is the one who didn't respond.

Haven't looked at what all Ph has said, so there might be a lot I disagree with, but I suspect he's right about nepotism being a problem to an extent. I don't like the idea of any department being run as one person's little fiefdom. I want to see the best, most qualified people hired at all times. I'm a bit surprised so many are taking issue with that.

The problem is that it's so collateral to the present issue why would anyone start making a big deal about it now, unless of course they were looking for angles to push a different agenda.

While this is a better statement from Jurich than the first one, the part about Petrino not knowing seems weak. Even Jurich noted that WF did not use the plays in the game. Clearly they had specific plays they were looking for, but they never happened. Will never believe Petrino did not know. Guys like him know everything going on with their program.

Are they trying to say that the team had all these cards printed up with Wake formations, sets and plays and Petrino was totally unware? I call that 1st class B.S.

Nepotism is family
Cronyism is friends
