Country Music Discussion Thread

Speaking of Texas, Charlie Robison is awesome.

And as for Isbell content, watch this. I am a guitar player - I actually play guitar, mandolin, banjo, and keys in a country band - and I LOVE this solo from Isbell. It starts at about 5:00. The solo by Neal Casal is great too. This isn't really "country", but this version is somewhat. This is a cover of the song by Drivin' n Cryin. Just check out Isbell's solo. Has everything.

instrumental album called Modern Country i listen to all the time at work and really dig

Americana. He has won some awards under that classification.

He's my man.

I really liked Drive By Truckers when he was with them. The Dirty South was one of their best albums. Things started falling apart for them with Blessing and a Curse and never got back on track.

Their new album American Band is awesome

If anyone missed Sturgill's SNL performance this week go find it. He was amazing, one of the best SNL performances ever.

Haven't seen SNL, but I saw him live in Birmingham at Slossfest 2 years ago and he gave what was far and away the best performance I've seen at that festival over the past few years.

Again, not really country but what the heck. I am gonna throw this in here because you guys appreciate music. If you haven't, check out The Marcus King Band. Dude is unreal.

I liked it, definitely isn't subtle. Saw them in November and they sounded awful. Between the performance, occasional BLM chants and a late Sunday night start the venue was probably half empty an hour in.

The quality of Isbell's songwriting and vocals since leaving DBT is noticeable. Particularly since getting sober, not surprisingly.

Saw TCT at CCMF last year and they were really good. I enjoy a lot of their stuff. Definitely more country rock.

if you live in the Carolinas, please come to CCMF. I will even get you a beer, maybe two.

Kenny Chesney is the moder day country music GOAT, imo. Big fan of Church as well, App State roots included. Was big on the last Old Dominion album and enjoyed seeing them open for Kenny last summer and recently at Coyote Joes

I saw em three times last year including in November and thought it was the best of the lot. No BLM chants but there was a sign on Jay gonzalez's organ.

Kenny will be at CCMF this year, along with Darius and Aldean

Church killed it the first year

Seeing Marcus King Friday. Double recommend the guitardeac rec.

Dang the vocals on the Straight to Hell cover were unlistenable. Was that Todd Snider? Hope not. Jason is the complete package. Best current lyricist in music, every bit as good as Prine at painting pictures with words. Songswriting is top notch and his guitar playing is also among the very best in the business. On top of that the live shows with the 400 Unit are full tilt every show, they leave it all on the stage. Going to see him for 5th time in 3 years in Vegas in March. Sat 3rd row for Jason with Sturgill opening at DPAC a couple of years ago...one for the ages to say the least. Sturgill's guitar player Lars Joamets is also ridiculous. If you haven't watched this Jason concert yet, kick back on. Friday night with a bottle of bourbon and crank it up.

Re: Sirius Outlaw, i actually like Mojo though he is a tar hole fan. But the best music on that channel imo is played on the Hillbilly Jim Moonshine Matinee. Dude truly loves country and americana and has the best playlist. Would never have heard Warren Haynes' Coal Tattoo or Company Man without Hillbilly Jim. If you don't listen to Franny Thomas's Your Roots Are Showing on the Loft though you are definitely missing out. She's easily the best dj on sirius, any channel.

Any Prine fans need to read this article /interview from Rolling Stone two weeks ago. http://http://www.rollingstone.com/music/features/john-prine-at-70-inside-his-wild-past-grounded-present-w458832

Last two DBTs are pretty darn good as was the triple disc live they did last year. Off the new one, Ever South is a classic and Guns of Umpqua may be best song Patterson has written. William Tyler album is excellent though not really country.

If anyone is looking for new twang, check out Austin Lucas and John Moreland. Moreland's High on Tulsa Heat is phenomenal. He's opening for Shovels and Rope in Raleigh in March, can't wait. Last Lucero was fantastic. Love Ryan Bingham but he hasnt been able to live up to the Mescalito/Roadhouse Sun combo. He put put a live album over Christmas on Amazon.

+1 to John Moreland. I saw him open for Caleb Caudle in front of like 60 people at the Garage a couple years ago and since then have seen him open for Dawes and Isbell.

Shout out to my boi Sunny Ledfurd for writing the original country song about pontoon boats.
