Danny Manning Credibility Watch Thread Credibility Watch

I still think the hire was a ill advised risk. But Coach Manning and the team balled the fuck out this year.

I have loved watching them play and I'm hooked on Wake basketball again.

Glad to be back to being emotionally invested. Can't wait for the heartbreak!

Watch out, people get very upset when folks refuse to admit they were wrong.

Why was it "ill advised" to hire a coach who had just turned around a D1 program and made The Dance after our first choice got screwed by Hatch? He' is a coach that learned the game from a father who was a pro player and coach; was a legendary college player; was coached by legends; was considered a coach on the floor; has great ties in college and pros; paid his dues in learning in coaching at one of the Top 4 programs in the nation where they won a NC; developed a Top 60 player into NPOY; is considered the best big man's coach in the country and has ites to the area.

That's a damn good resume.

At this point, Danny may be looking better than Shaka. We'll see in a couple of years.

Wow a whole professorship! What a terrible price to pay to potentially raise hundreds of millions of dollars for the university and have a top level basketball program for decades to come!

Sometimes getting your second choice, like Durant over Oden, turns out well for you.

Especially to give it to someone who got her PhD from...?

Who cares about a PhD when it's journalism?

The millions of dollars their presence at Wake could have raised over some prof with a PhD and a random coach helps professors and the university than hiring one prof with a masters from a Top 3 journalism grad program.

I think much of the faculty at Wake might care a little bit. Especially if there wasn't an opening to fill, and we created a new position. The relationship with an underpaid faculty at Wake and an Athletic Department with an ACC budget is not exactly the strongest from time to time. The optics of that would not be great.

Other than for a few profs with sticks up their ass, the "optics" would be great. The rest of Wake would get tens, if not hundreds of millions of dollars in free press. We'd draw more donations to build better facilities and to attract better profs and students. The current prof's pay would be going up with more revenue or at least their ability to negotiate for more.

Oh, the horror of having a Harvard/Northwestern grad as prof to help the rest of school.

What a snobbish and myopic position to take.

I'll stick with DM if he can recruit at a high level. He seems to be an excellent coach in developing players as well as a game plan. As the season has progressed he seems to be making excellent in game adjustments. My primary concern is recruiting. He knows what we likes (good shooters) and is excellent in identifying potential good players flying under the radar. I am hoping his ability to land the recruits he identifies as targets improves as our record improves.

Idiot trolls, like Junebug, will be idiot trolls.

You don't understand basketball or how the business of colleges work. But do understand how to be a falsely arrogant asshole. What a great choice.

At the time, Danny was our second choice, but a really good second choice. He has a good chance to end up being better.

Completely agree. I wanted Shaka as well. However, DM has really done an awesome job. Much better than I expected.

lol. When was the last time you were on the Wake Forest campus, RJ?

Have been laughing at tens, no HUNDREDS of millions of dollars in free press for the last 10 minutes.

Coach Manning wasn't our 2nd choice. He turned out to be a good choice, but we would have hired Smart, Miller, or White if they wanted to come here. They didn't, so Coach Manning got the call.

About four years ago.

As to the free press, how much is each game on ESPN/ESPN 2 or other Tier 1 national networks worth versus ESPN 3 and secondary networks? It doesn't take many to get to tens of millions inf free press. From that free press, you raise money, that how it works.

how many millions up millions did we raise from having Maya Angelou on campus? Shaka could have brought in much more.
