Bands that never made it big that you liked

really loved this band "Weezer" but after their second album they just sort of went away

Let's Active, for sure.
Jason and the (Nashville) Scorchers
Swimming Pool Q's

Which if I'm not mistaken Debra Demilo of fabulous knobs joined forces with in the 2000s.
IIRC they tried to start some sort of new project around that time and played a few gigs, but I don't think Kenny Soule was a part of it. I don't think John Custard was part of it either. Forget the name.

yep, I forgot it was under a different name. It was Arms, I believe.

Stone Roses and Walkmen played stadiums. Supergrass and Ash, too. Possibly JSBX?

Autopassion is a local Winston band that I thought could've made it. I'm still not sure what happened there. Love Language and the Capulets got some press back in the day, though they never actually broke our.

I do not doubt your word but ... huh. The Stone Roses and The Walkmen I saw at the 930 Club in DC, while Ash and JSBX I saw at Ziggys. Now, I know The Stone Roses played stadiums overseas, but Ash? Really? I'll be dadgummed (sorry for language)

I don't know, but I would think so.

Ash was huge in Europe during that second wave of Brit-Pop. Didn't they open for U2 and on a handful of other stadium tours?

Those guys were great, though. Thanks for reminding me of them!

I'm envious of your Stone Roses experience. That sounds incredible.

Those were great times to be young and free, brother. Oh, to go back again ... :)

Philly in the late 70s-mid 80s was filled with great music of all kinds. People migrated there dreaming to work with Kenny Gamble, Leon and the late great Linda Creed. They were pumping outs as fast as they could record them at Sigma Sound. what a lot of people don't know or that Gamble/Huff's first hit was with the blue-eyed soul group the Soul Survivors whose success led to the Sound of Philadelphia and opened some space for Hall and Oates.

George Thorogood had outgrown bars and was touring.

There were three clubs called the Cabaret. One was on Penn's campus in building that had been Pagano's Pizza for decades. Another was in Ardmore called the 23 East Cabaret (it's now the Ardmore Music Hall). The last was in West Chester. Most nights there were taken by The Hooters and the John Cadillac Blues Band.

Robert Hazard (RIP) made a bunch of money for his song Girls Just Want To Have Fun, but never broke out. In spite of all the money he made from Girls Just Want To Have Fun, Robert was quite sad. He always thought he never got his due.

The Reds got an insane contract and never delivered. Kenn Kweeder, The A's and The Numbers were all amazing.

The Main Point was struggling but gave lots of people opportunities. Jackson Browne and David Lindley would play a week for free to help Mrs. Campbell pay her bills.

Any night of the week you could find multiple good bands playing. During the week basically on The Hooters, John Cadillac and Robert Hazard had cover charges.

Can't imagine why GWAR never made it big.

Someone mentioned Bo Deans and Allgood. Both good strong bands but just didn't have the singles to break out. Jupiter Coyote was in the vein as well.

I hope Susto out of Charleston makes it. They can jam like the ones above but seem to have better writing.
