Welcome to the idiot club, ITC. Some probably thought you always resided there, but I didn't.

It has nothing to do with Religion. Whereas the IRA differed in their religion from the Church of England, they had definable political objectives. They never chopped off peoples heads, burnt them alive, raped on a massive scale.

The fact that I have to point this out is sad....but not surprising.

The IRA killed around 2000 people. Protestant paramilitary groups killed around 1000 and British security forces killed around 350. Lots of bad guys

In our lifetime Christians have used The Bible to justify:

Jim Crow
Lynching
Segregation
Laws against interfaith and interracial marriage
All sorts of anti-gay laws
Anti-healthcare positions
The current VP signed a law as Governor of IN that allows business owners to discriminate against gay couples and wants that to happen nationally

You're right I apologize. I was in no way trying to diminish the actions of the IRA. They were murderes and terrorists, fuck them. But, this current brand of Islamic terrorists seems like a different beast all together. Their primary interest seems to be in killing, not in making some political point. I think there is a big difference between using your religion to justify shitty actions (e.g. segregation, lynching, anti gay stuff) and feeling compelled by you religion to kill people.
 
Also, can we talk about how Trump and Pence were all "Pittsburgh not Paris!" and "Des Moines not Denmark!" this week but when it comes to terrorism they're essentially saying "London not Portland"?
 
Equal in that all religious ideologies should be the same in the eyes of the law? Absolutely.
