ACA Running Thread

Poor elderly also depend on medicaid.

The losers under the Pubs are going to be the poor (of any age or work status), the sick, and the older (not yet on medicare). Winners will be the wealthy and the healthy.

And at what point if you can't afford $200 a month for medicare when you're 65 and getting social security should you own up to personal responsibility and live less long? Note I'm not personally responsible at all and I'm not going to live long, so I'm not biased on the #poors.

One day the poor, sick, sand elderly will all be rich and healthy. That trickle is coming! You don't want to miss out!

A bit extreme for sure.

The current ACA has a 90 day grace period in which the first 30 days claims must be paid, even of the person never pays. And yes this is being abused. Rules are complicated but at renewal, many cases where account just resets.

Seems to be a happy medium in there. 60 day grace period but pend all claims until account current.

"death panels" are back baby, yayuh!

Have to keep the job to keep Medicaid. Need car to get to job. Car breaks down. Must choose between fixing car or health insurance payment. Either way, lose health insurance for 6 months.

Sneaky way to not cover preexisting conditions.

Alright, CHD, if you had to bet, is this thing passing or no?

There is less than no reason to have ANY tax cuts in this bill.

51% no....Too hard to undue legislation with razor thin margins....If if doesn't pass, not sure what they do with funding going forward.

Our lobby team really thinks its 50-50 and have said as much since day 1. Truly a remarkable time in Congress.

Thinking of health care as some free consumer-driven market is just dumb, then calling it insurance is even dumber.

It's hard to tell sometimes if they are blatantly lying or they don't understand their own bill.

Agreed. It's troubling both ways.

Because that's their whole motivation for the bill and what they hated most about Obamacare.

yeah, i don't understand why that is even included in this bill

And because the whole bill must only be focused on tax, spending, or debt limit adjustments - otherwise it would be subject to filibuster.

Healthcare was a perfect time to do something bipartisan and fix Obamacare but the environment is too toxic and both groups want to say their side won while using real people and real life or death consequences. So now the options are shitty pub bill that nobody wants, or a temper tantrum refusal to support what's already in place and an end result similar to shitty pub bill. Good times!
