Addition by Subtraction

I'm certainly not trying to bash JTT and wish we still had him.
However, I've read a couple times here that he was starting to get it at the end of the year and I really don't remember this happening. So I looked at the numbers.
Over his last 11 games of the season, he averaged:
9.0 pts
38.6% FG
1.45 ast
2.2 TO
0.8 steals

In his last 7 games of the season he only got 7.6 ppg on 34.1% FG.

I don't know how good Chas Fischer is going to be for us but I would bet it will exceed the above numbers in most categories. I would say there defense is likely to be a wash. Chase comes in with an equal high school rep and I just don't think we're losing a lot here other than depth- which actually is a big deal but shouldn't change our overall record significantly.

Agreed. People were still judging JTT based on his incoming hype and the Iowa game which of course came before he started to reign it in and "get it".

By the way, it's Chase with an "e".

The problem with losing JTT isn't just for what he may or may not provide in the future, but that he provides depth and experience. He also, by all reports, was being good about buying into the system, whatever the hell the system is in this case.

I was 1 for 2 with the e's. I think I was thrown off trying to remember if there was a c in Fischer or not. This is a new Chase era, let's hope a better one.

The kid can play basketball. I think he'll have a good run in Cinci when he lands there one day. And who would really be surprised if that happened? Maybe West Virginia.

It will be interesting to see how the next job search goes. Does Hatch grow a pair, fire Wellman, clean house top to bottom and bring in a consulting firm to determine how to rebuild an entire athletic program from the smoldering ashes?

Ok, trying not to be too negative, but I can't help myself..

What, in the name of Zeus's butthole, makes anyone think Fischer is going to be good? I'm not saying he'll never be good, but a freshman, coming to a team that was terrible last year, in a downward spiral, with TC just coming back, a WEAK (at best) front court, oh, and a bench filled with inexperience...... What am I missing about this barely recruited good outside shooter that is going to make him propel this team????

+1.

If we are hanging our hat on Fischer to save this team, we beyond grasping for straws. The sad fact- and it has nothing to do with Dino vs Buzz- is that no one- and I mean no one- who isn't an employee, student or alum is the least bit interested in WFU hoops. And every week, more and more students and alums throw in the proverbial towel. At present, there is nothing on earth less inspiring than WFU basketball.

You can ask people to hang in there, when there is a reasonable basis to believe things will get better. Otherwise, there is nowhere to go but further into obscurity.

What was Joe Amonett's ranking coming out of HS?

What was Chase Fischers's ranking coming out of HS?

This thread is comical. I'd ask you to think about what we would be saying if UVA, Clemson, BC, etc. went 8-24 last year and just lost their second-best player.

JTT didn't do a whole lot for me, but one of the many things our program is missing are potential game-changing impact players. Even if our incoming recruits pan out so to speak, what is their respective ceiling? Contributor off the bench as freshmen? Solid ACC starter? On the other hand, JTT had star written all over him. He was at least capable of dropping 30+ to carry us to win over a high-major program. Those are the kinds of recruits we just don't have enough of right now.

Even if all of our incoming kids pan out and become decent ACC players, I think we've seen firsthand that it's the all-conference, superstar-caliber players that get you places in this league. JTT was at least a possibility to be our next one of those.

Actually, it kind of happened to UVa when they lost Sylven Landsberg.

Such a crock. In all of sports, fans throw in the towel and a few hard working talented folks work in near utter obscurity and when they find success, the fans flock back like a tidal wave.

The fans will be fanatical as soon as there is a product on the court to be fanatical about. In the meantime, diehards will follow, cheer and hope for the best.

In many ways, the fact that "nobody is the least bit interested in Wake sports" is a fucking blessing. But due to the love of Skip Prosser, the media will flock to Wake when there is something warm and fuzzy to report. There was that much love and respect for the man.

You never seem to really get it. You don't really seem to learn from your uber sky is falling posts over the years. You are one of my least favorite posters mainly because you are so utterly 2-dimensional. PhDeac, who can drive me insane, is a fully fleshed out 3D poster - and I have underappreciated that. You make me love the man.

The sky fell, man. And it's still falling.

Let me kiss you, fully fleshed man.

Lots of man love going on here...

My only point is it's a hard sell to say we are going to be better by getting rid of an impact/athletic, improving player, who can score a variety of ways and replacing him with a one diminsional freshman...

Thats all..I'm not jumping off any bandwagon, and I appreciate your optimism, I'm just so far away from buying us winning more then 10 games this year....

IMO, there is no scenario where one can logically conclude that we are better off without JTT. None. He was a good teammate, very athletic, showed a willingness to learn and had a tremendous upside. He wasnt polished by any means, but we would be better off with him going into the season.

Right now he has multiple challenges in his life that will require his full attention. If and when they are successfully addressed, then and only then can he turn is attention back to basketball.

But for the team, losing him is not addition by subtraction. One could make a convincing argument that was indeed the case with Tabb. However, you would have to be Aesop's fox to do so with JT.
