University of Wisconsin approves protest punishment policy

Regents President John Robert Behling told the board before Friday’s vote that adopting the policy ahead of the legislation shows “a responsiveness to what’s going on in the Capitol, which helps build relationships.”

Republican Gov. Scott Walker appointed all but two of the board’s 18 members. State public schools Superintendent Tony Evers and Wisconsin Technical College System Board President Mark Tyler are automatically regents by virtue of their offices.

Evers, a Democrat running against Walker in next year’s gubernatorial election, cast the only dissenting vote. He accused the regents of sacrificing free speech to curry favor with Republican lawmakers.

“This policy will chill and suppress free speech on this campus and all campuses,” Evers said.

Does anyone know how the WFU policy that upset MHP compares to the Wisc. policy?
 
sailor and others, do you think A&T and UNCG were wrong to fire an outside contractor for hanging a noose on campus? Do you think that violated his free speech? Is this yet another example of PC going too far? Can somebody explain what is funny about hanging a noose?

I have no problem with an employer firing an employee, or hired contractor, for engaging in behavior that can be reasonably perceived by others as threatening.
 
how is that a joke? who really thinks it is funny? what a load of shit.

Thanks. Would it be different if a student or a student organization hung nooses or invited someone to campus to do so?

Any idea what is funny about a noose?

I would love to hear a single example of where a noose could be funny. The purposes of a noose are for execution and suicide, and in the United States it is effectively known as an instrument that was used to kill African Americans.
 
can't think of one now, but I would not rule it out entirely

hell, under the proper circumstances and if you set it up right just about anything could be funny

but for the most part a noose is not funny
 
Aaron Hernandez jersey and noose around neck Halloween costume, I find it amusing and it’s fine because he was a murder.
