Whoa. Serious vibes. Wouldn't State still go ahead of us with the better conference record, though? Or are we assuming they lose to UNC, here?
It amazes you people hope Wake plays in a bowl game near their home so it is easier for them to go to the game?
Absolutely! This is about the players. Not an alum. Give the boys a nice vaction... as long as they take care of business.
That's fine and all, but we're not likely to get invited to Atlanta, Orlando or Jacksonville anyway; so Charlotte is a pretty good option, especially considering some of the other locations like Detroit and Shreveport.
I'm about getting into the best bowl we can get into. That's it. If there are great bowls we can get out West that are of equal stature, great. Give the players a cool trip with lots of swag.
That's great, but don't expect a huge Wake fan turnout. And there really aren't that many bowls out west of equal stature, let alone one that the ACC has a tie-in with.
Payout per team
Holiday $2.075 million
Sun $2.0 million
Music City $1.8375 million
Pinstripe $1.8 million
Belk $1.7 million
Texas $1.7 million
Would it be great to go to Santa Clara and play in the Foster Farms Bowl at Levi's Stadium ? Sure, but the payout is less than half of the Belk Bowl.
Biff, I'm not at all against Belk. That would be a fine matchup. Just don't put words in my mouth. I want what the players would seem to want, all things equal. And on attendance, Wake fans pride themselves on being more well-heeled than most, so paying for a flight somewhere shouldn't affect a good number of "us" who'd want to go. Secondly, most bowls rely primarily on locals to attend the games, and if the schools bring a lot so much the better. I'm sure any distant bowl would be pleased with, say, 5,000 tickets sold from Wake. So, a big meh on fans attending distant bowls. It is what it is.
Every bowl has its benefits.
Except for Shreveport
