Danny Manning Credibility Watch

We have no clue if we did or didn’t.

What we did do, however, was fire a 0.66 coach two weeks later than necessary, and 8 months after giving him an extension. And then we invented a narrative for why we did this when the handpicked replacement turned out to be a very predictable disaster.

Wellman knows very little about basketball or how to run a successful basketball program. He, remarkably, seems to know even less about PR.

Incredible but true.

If we offered White what we are paying Manning, no wonder he turned it down. Florida pays him 50% more than we pay Manning.

I’ve always considered Duke as Coach K’s team, not Kevin White’s. He had to wait another year & got lucky that Billy D opted for the NBA. He had never been to the tournament & was offered the head gig at an ACC school. I think the right AD seals that deal.

Mike White's dad is the AD at Duke.

Quit repeating this. There is no factual basis for it.

Not saying money wasn't an issue, just putting more emphasis on the dumpster fire Wellman created. What sources do you have that said money was the was the biggest issue? Put forth some evidence and I'll never mention it again.

yeah i never saw any evidence that we low-balled Stevens, just an assumption based on Wellman's apparent incompetence b/c who could possibly decline a chance to coach at THE Wake Forest University

Shakka could not be reached for comment.

Of course he is. You made it seem like Mike wouldn’t take a ACC job b/c he would have to coach against Dad’s school. I’m saying that is ridiculously stupid.

What I said was why would he if he had another job at a P5 school for as much or more money?

Here's the exact post:

He didn’t though. He turned down Wake to stay at La Tech. Florida fell in his lap a year later. Wellman couldn’t convince the La Tech coach to leave for the ACC.

I'm confident Manning will have these guys playing good ball by the end of the season. The problem is that we have already burst our bubble just 2 games in. No matter the holes, and no matter how ugly it gets you have GOT to find a way to keep your head above water while your team comes into its own. We have not done that, and now we're already sunk.
Why are you confident of that

Why are you confident of that

I still believe in Manning's ability to develop talent, and development takes time.

As far as pure speculation, it looks like Danny may have spent TOO much time recruiting (although at least the returns there appeared to have paid off) and not enough time adjusting to the massive change in strategy our new team requires. Moore clearly isn't Collins, Thompson clearly isn't Dinos, and Chaundee clearly isn't Arians/Wilbekin. A seasoned coach may know what to do with that kind of turnover, but we all know Manning has a lot of learning to do when it comes to scheme and in-game coaching. Unfortunately, trying a million different combinations in-game at the cost of losing 2 games we 100% should have won is a horrible price to pay for a learning experience.

I think he is trying to cram too much change into too little of time, and it has lost us 2 games. In other words, he is forcing an end-season game plan on a team that clearly isn't prepared to execute it yet.

daaberry is correct. White went to Florida in the Spring of 2015, the year after Manning accepted the WF job - Spring 2014. White had no Florida offer on the table if/when WF offered him the head WF job in the wake of the [] firing. FWIW, the issue with White at La Tech was that he won the conference regular season 3 years in a row at La Tech, but managed to get upset in the conference tourney every year. The concern about White as a tournament coach was quelled when he took the Gators to the Elite 8 last year.

Did we lowball Lembo? I thought we just offered Clawson instead. If we did lowball him, then thank god we did.
If I recall correctly, Katie didn't want to leave her high school before she graduated.
