Wake NC State 7:30 PM ESPNU Night Game!

Jackson should, and will be, first team All-ACC. Wolford likely gets the nod over Finley for second team IMO.

State fans on Twitter are SALTY

I follow a decent number of State bloggers who I consider to be pretty reasonable fans (good banter, good discourse, good substance) and I get it to some degree, but they were absolutely SURE that State scored before Kemp punched the ball out and I just don't see how you could reasonably believe that any view would overturn the call.

Also re: Clawson challenging calls - AFAIK every play is still reviewed in college which leads me to believe that most of the time coaches should not challenge.

This board severely underrates Jackson. We've played him pretty well, which explains why. Still he's a 20 year old who has shown significant improvement each year of his college career.

I think we were counting on better than a 32 yard punt. I didn't expect 55 against the breeze, but at an acc level, I think you should expect ~45 yards. Plus more hang time on punt, better coverage, harder to setup a return, harder to catch, and they muffed one already.

And NC State's kicker has been a disaster this year. Not so much on extra points, but has missed quite a few FGs. I think you make them make an extra point, especially since we've show we can block a FG with game on the line this year.

ETA: We punted from the 23. Maggio was on the 8, probably kicked from the 11 or so. So you automatically gain 9 yards. And whether you kickoff or punt from the 20, probably a deeper kicker with no pressure of a rush. I think the return is much different though. We went pooch kickoff against the wind. Weaver was hitting them to the 25-28 from the 35. So add 15 yards, 40-43 is where the ball was landing. And they had 5-15 yard returns on those, I think they end up in better field position, even after the 32 yard hook that Maggio hit. and a kickoff return is much more dangerous than a punt return, usually. So at best, they FC the pooch kickoff at the 40-43. You gain maybe 5 yards, but putting your coverage team at more risk, and you aren't making them make an extra point.

45 against the wind in that situation? I would have been thrilled with 40 yards.

The shot at 3:33 makes it reasonably clear that the ball is out, IMO. Close, but a foot or two short

I'd have taken 40, absolutely. He was 8 yards short of that, essentially a first down. With 50 seconds left, no timeouts, 8 yards means a lot. *See their holding penalty.

Wolford confirmed in his comments that he missed a few throws because of his hand injury.

This shit has got to stop.

My goodness the guy to the right of the center got absolutely blown up.

Osterhage.

So what's happening now that wasn't happening on XPs all season?

Another thing to look at with the end zone fumble is the ref's "marker bean bag." He was right on the goal line watching for a score and threw the beanbag at the 1 yard line, which without a goal line camera, is probably the best source of info on the play. Tosses of the bean bag are not always spot on but regardless even if off by a foot or so, the ref clearly thought the ball was out a few feet before the goal line.

Finley
267-419, 2992 yards, 16 TDs, 5 Ints. 133.9 Rating
Rushing 54 for 168, 1 td.

Wolford 191-292, 2601, 23 TDs, 4 ints, 163.5 Rating
Rushing 113 for 567, 10 TDs

Jackson 226 for 378, 3273 yards, 23 Tds, 6 ints, 149.4 rating
Rushing 190 for 1287, 17 tds

You could make an argument that Wolford is better than Jackson as a passer. But Jackson has 1st team locked down. And I think statistically speaking, Wolford has 2nd team locked up over Finley.

Well I think in this case, you could chalk it up to potentially 3 NFL defensive lineman on the FG block team.

Jackson with 14.48 yards per completion ? That's NUTZ !

Wolford - 8.91
Finley - 11.21

I hate Weaver's reaction. The lineman don't show you up when you miss 1 out of the 4 FGs you've attempted in your career, or when you don't hit a touchback with a 15 mph breeze at your back. Put your arms down, jog to the sideline, let the coaches handle it.
