Biggest Reform EVER passed thread

So looking at the final JCT score, 77% of the total tax savings go to the bottom 99%. So the top 1% get 23% of the benefit, but the top 1% also pay 35% of the total taxes.

This bill ain't that terrible.

Link?

Good grief.

You imagine you have been in danger of not being able to pass your assets to your children?

Really?

Why not? I hope when I die I am worth 30 million dollars. I am certainly not now, but if I have made that much money, why should I be forced to give it to the government? That has never made sense to me. Tax what someone earns. Tax it is a lot for all I care (My tax plan would be higher individual taxes, and lower corporate taxes personally), but don't tax someone when they make the money, and then take it from them when they die. That is not reasonable.

Now that's a straw man, right there. Nobody is saying it's immoral to want to pass down wealth to your kids.

Never change PH.

Why is it worse to tax dead people than living people?

So it's not a death tax then. It's a tax on a transfer of funds from one person to another.

Why wouldn't you want your sweet children and grandchildren to earn a living for themselves?

Quote 1: Bill is immoral
Quote 2: We should be able to tax dead people (after the money has already been taxed)
Quote 3: Your kids shouldn't get your money, they should have to earn their own money

Then you attempt to wildly swing with a 'strawman' uppercut after the referenced argument is the EXACT argument you are making. If you don't think moral high ground is being claimed against this bill, let me direct you to a link that will help you see the light.

Clearly you are in no danger of such government thievery.

I am also not in danger of needed government subsidies for healthcare. Am I able to comment on that? Or am I only able to hold opinions on those pieces of legislation that directly effect me? Please enlighten.

If you think estate taxation is a problem, or represents “double taxation” or prevents passing of fruits of labor on to heirs then you are mistaken.

As I expected, the real joy most Republicans are getting from this bill has little to nothing to do with its contents (which will not benefit the great majority of them), but rather from being able to crow about Trump finally get some major legislation passed (however dubious its value), and verbally taunt and ridicule Democrats and liberals, just as they did after the presidential election last year. That's certainly the gist I get on here, and on facebook and other social media today. "Are liberals crying yet? #MAGA!"

On the flip side , families who are over the exemption amount get taxed at roughly 70-75% of their income. Seems high.

I don't think the bill is immoral. I find lying about who it actually benefits to be extremely disingenuous. Rural America, Trump's base, gets nothing out of this, and they don't even realize it.

But they COULD if they suddenly became worth millions.

More straw men!

You said I said it was immoral to pass down money to your kids. That's a horrible misinterpretation of what I've said.

1. I posted a Rubio tweet.
2. I think it's better to tax dead people rather than hard working Americans.
3. I think it's hypocritical for Republicans to demonize the working poor and talk about bootstraps while make it easier to make sure their children don't have to work at all.

None of that means I think it's immoral to leave something behind for your kids. I just think it's fine to tax it.

They'll get a couple grand, which I'm sure they'll appreciate. This concept of middle class people not being happy with a few thousand dollars I really don't get.

It's a transfer of wealth from liberal states to conservative states
