Wake Forest Football Recruiting

Understand why recruiting DBs was a priority for the incoming class.

The DBs made some great plays. They gave up some too but Kirk is a fantastic player. I’m pretty excited about our young DBs.

Our coverage got progressively softer throughout the season. Gave up a ton of yards due to scheme.

Our coverage scheme today gave up a lot of yards after (short) catches because our linebackers aren't quite quick enough to get to the receivers on the edge of their zones. This should improve next year.

Question: at the game, I saw Chase Monroe "jogging" down to the end of the field to celebrate with the rest of the team and he looked to be having trouble jogging. Did he suffer a leg injury at some point during the season? Glad he was able to redshirt.

So we can play more prevent D at the end of the first half and give up what was almost the game winning TD? Because I was fuming about that. Still makes me mad. When you have a chance to play Malik Grate over Wendell Dunn in a key drive in a bowl game, I guess you have to do it.

Why was Masterson on the field for the busted coverage bomb in the first half? Was Glenn hurt? I was at the game and couldn’t figure out some things without radio or TV analysis and I assumed that Henderson was injured early in the game as well.

We had reason to be afraid of #3 for A&M. He was arguably the best receiver we played all year.

Plus, we have a really inexperienced defensive backfield. But I believe the talent and athleticism are there.

Agree. Bassey, Taylor and #20 are short but very good athletes. The new recruits seem to be taller.

I think Glenn was just getting a breather. We had a lot of backups in on both sides of the ball at that point.

Yeah. But I can't imagine a Brit who has never played football being productive in an all-star game and getting a scholarship from a P5 school much less getting on the field and being productive.

The thing that sticks out to me this bowl season is there are a bunch of teams we could beat. I don't think we have ever been in a place where the optimism for a next season is as high as it will be this off season. Interesting times.

Agreed. The only problem is the recent ascendency of Clemson. If they weren‘t where they are, I think we‘d have a shot at the ACCCG. Still might. We get them at home next year and there is always the chance Clemson will Clemson at some point during the season.

I mostly agree with this with one notable exception: the loss of Wolford. Replacing the most productive QB in program history will most likely result in a step back offensively (although I guess there’s a chance one of the other guys could be better, albeit a very small chance). I still feel good about the rest of the returning players (that OL!!) to think we can make significant noise even with a new QB.

Yeah, as I‘ve posted on other threads, I expect us to take a step back at QB next year, which is to say a step back offensively. Would love for Hinton or one of the other QBs to prove me wrong.
