Snow

We basically got a dusting in DC (super windy though). Call at 12:30 for 1 hour delay. Update at 5:30 for 2 hour delay. Update at 6:30 for school closed.

Not even enough to play in!

I drove from Charlotte to Raleigh at 6am this morning, probably the best drive I've had on that route. Absolutely no rush hour traffic and no snow/ice. Wide open 90 all the way.

This is a screenshot from a few minutes ago of a webcam showing the Dartmouth College campus in the midst of today's blizzard. On the left is the Baker Library tower, which is similar to the Wait Chapel tower, both of which are modeled on Independence Hall in Philadelphia.

As usual in conditions like this, the campus is open and classes are in session.

I lived there for six years. It's a beautiful place!

No surprise they are in session. Nh/Vt know how to handle bad weather. Plows and salt/sand everywhere. Never had any issues there with getting to work etc.

The roads are brined at the last minute in Charlotte. We didn't see a flake and never really were supposed to. Smart use of resources.

My old man would be proud.

Snow snow everywhere it seems, except for me. I happen to be in the black part of this map today.

The locals seems to be bummed, they want to see some snow.

I just learned another term for bomb cyclone was bombogenesis. Now THAT's metal. That's what Khan was trying to get his hands on in Star Trek II.

Is that the Grinch?

Pretty crazy event for Wilmington. Still a lot of snow out there 2 days later and high temps in 20’s through Monday. Lot of spots around town where roads are still fully covered.

WS/FC Schools closing 2 hours early tomorrow (Mon 1/8). Will be curious if the potential of freezing rain and sleet gets to us in the Piedmont by then. Forsyth and Guilford got roasted for not dismissing early on that Friday in December. Multiple kids and families in accidents. I heard that a lot of the busses (??) had trouble getting kids home and many children were still at school past 5:00.

It's interesting that there is not a 2 hour delay in the morning- the 20 degrees that is forecast for tomorrow is just as cold as the 20 degrees that caused a 2 hour delay last week.

Well, it's going to snow for the big 3 NC metros. As usual, no one really has a clue how much. NWS calling for dusting - 2 inches, but some models showing up to 4-5, especially closer to RDU. Lots of closings either way, as it will be snowing during rush hour a lot of places.
