NFL Offseason Thread: 2018 NFL Draft

And so the Mahomes era begins, and the small chance that Cousins remained in Washington has evaporated.

I don’t get that move for either team.

The Chiefs made out like bandits. No clue what Washington is thinking.

So why haven't the Skins just paid Cousins? I don't get it.

And Reid. Damn.

Chiefs get something for a guy they would have gotten rid of for nothing... And they save money. They've wanted Mahomes to be the starting QB for a while now.

Redskins get Alex Smith (who doesn't suck) for a LOT less money than they would have had to pay Cousins... And they basically now have 3-5 years to find and develop their long-term answer at QB (because they probably aren't contenders the next 1-2 years anyway).

Alex Smith isn't bad... High floor, low upside. You can win games with him.

Not that it’s ever fun to be a Washington fan, but going from Cousins to Smith is like switching from Craft Beer to NA swill.

Please prove me wrong, consummmate game manager.

Cousins now gets to see what he is worth on the frwe agent market. Will he get a long term deal and/or anything near the $30+ million Washington would had to pay him under a third franchise tag?

Cousins has worked hard and become a better QB than expected. Now it looks like the other GMs in the league will be able to express their thoughts on his capabilities via contract offers.

As a Chiefs fan, I say fuck that. I LOVED Alex Smith. I admit, I watch very few Redskins games, but if the Chiefs traded Smith for Cousins straight up, I would pissed. I can't fucking stand Cousins and I don't know why. He just seems like a brown nose douche bag I would hate to play in front of. Smith can run, can take a hit, is super accurate. Lot to like if you are a Skins fan.

I feel like I’ve seen cousins take a ton of hits when he scrambles instead of sliding. Also, over the last two years, Smith has been less than 2% more accurate on almost 200 less throws.

That decision to draft two QBs in the same draft sure looks solid for Washington five years later.

As long as you tailor your offense to his inability/unwillingness to throw the ball over 10 - 15 yards. I just don't see it working in Washington.

If I'm the Jets, I'm all over Cousins.

What about just last year? My memory tells me that Smith was great three years ago, meh two years ago, and very good to great this past season. My only knock on Smith is that when a defense presents itself to him as problematic, like say the Steelers this year, he can't change who he is for that game. He can if you prep him for a week, but not in game. Similar to, say, Big Ben or the Ravens QB. But both those guys have won Super Bowls.

In the Chiefs case, I do think half that falls on the coaches. The Chiefs sort of sucked at half time adjustments. I would argue though that had they not lost Kelce to a targeting concussion in the first half of their game against the Titans, they would have won going away in the 2nd half as half their game plan involved riding Kelce and they had nothing to replace it coming out of halftime.

Weird how TNF keeps getting passed around. It’s been on CBS, NBC, now FOX and was on Amazon Prime as well.

Five-year deal so it's staying put now.

Wish it would've just gone away

I agree with your take. And the Chiefs not only got a mid 3rd, they also got Fuller, a starting caliber CB who I followed at VT. It's a great deal for them - a pick and starting CB for a salary you were about to jettison. And it's not awful for Washington. They weren't getting Darnold or Rosen with the 13th pick, and probably not Allen or Mayfield either. So they got the 1 plug in starter who was going to be on the market before he could go elsewhere.

Once Fuller was announced as the player, this was a clear win for the Chiefs. They seem to really like Mahomes, so if that's what they want to do, go for it.
