Ongoing gun violence/injury thread

Facts still coming in, but it appears that the school resource officer was involved in ending the situation. May have saved countless lives.

Fox News is about to slob that dudes knob like it’s his wedding night.

Students at the school participated in the walk out last week:

St. Mary's County students 'walk out' against gun violence

At Great Mills High School, students gathered and talked about ending gun violence and reflected on the 17 lives lost in Parkland. Several students held signs calling for the end to the violence, others took the opportunity to have their voices heard and called for more safety in schools.

A freshman, who asked to not be identified, said she participated in the walkout because children shouldn’t be in fear of going to school. “I’ve been talking about it with my parents and we believe that kids shouldn’t be afraid to go to school.” She went on to say it wasn’t about gun control, it’s about stopping gun violence.

Great that an armed and well trained individual was on site.

Clearly a large part of any solution.

I'm hesitant to give Globe links because of the 5 article monthly limit, but as of right now, I can't find another reference to this. So...

Here's a local paper article: http://www.dotnews.com/2018/winthrop-man-ordered-surrender-weaponry-after-traffic-stop-dorchester

I've seen two people post stuff on Facebook to this effect.

I don't watch the 24 hour news stations, but it was all over my liberal Facebook feed and I saw regularly updated articles from all the big websites. I felt like it was the top story of the day.

Pretty sure CNN had the SRO's picture on their front page for a good while yesterday. Maybe gundamentalist snowflakes should check their facts before getting triggered, pun intended.

Well, confirming that legit news channels are covering a particular story would require watching a legit news channel. Much easier to stay in a Fox News bubble. Even that meme has to put a qualifier in there like "barely" so when someone posts the articles or even a recording, they can argue that it wasn't enough.

Also, just a disgraceful use of the philosoraptor.

Parents also have been supportive of the measure, which was implemented in the fall.

“At this point, we have to get creative, we have to protect our kids first and foremost,” parent Dori Bornstein told WNEP-TV. “Throwing rocks, it’s an option.”
