Even ignoring Eras, the top 10 single season PER ranks go like this
Jordan - 4
Wilt - 3
Lebron - 2
Steph - 1
I'm not huge into comparing eras because the level of play has advanced so far over the last 20 yrs. That said, it's Lebron > MJ pretty clearly for me.
1. PER is pretty basic
2. You strategically picked top 10 because Lebron has #11 and #13. You could have easily said they both have 4 of the top 15, etc.
3. They have the essentially the same career PER so I doubt that PER is going to be the stat to split them up.
Lebron James has lead the league in Points once. Michael Jordan lead the league in points scored 10 straight seasons.
No it doesn’t. It just means there are more teams. Much more talent, enough to spread across the greater number of teams.
And to flip ph’s question on Jordan, who were the great eastern conference players those bulls were beating? Ewing? Reggie Miller? Old Isaih Thomas?
Well yes because Lebron is an elite passer and not only a pure scorer.
Lebron averages 7 assists vs. Jordan's 5. 2 APG is the difference between elite passer and pure scorer?
Lebron playing longer/more is a big deal when considering a GOAT discussion. Peak matters but so does longevity. Lebron is doing all this at season 15 when GOATs of the past were hanging it up.
The first Championship he went through Ewing's Knicks, Barkley's Sixers, Isiah's Pistons and Magic and Kareem.
2nd was Ewing/Heat/ The Ehlo shot and Clyde the Glyde in the finals vs Portland
3rd was Dominique and the Hawks, Cleveland and Ewing again and Barkley in the Finals
4th was Morning and the Heat, Ewing and the Knicks, Shaq and Penny and the Magic and Kemp and Payton and the Sonics
5th was Webber/Howard Bullets, Dikembe's Hawks and Mourning's Heat and Stockton and Malone Jazz
6th was Nets before Kidd, Mason/Curry/Bogues/Rice/Maxwell/Divac Hornets, Reggie Miller's Pacers and Jazz.
Lebron's biggest test has been Lance Stephenson.
Jordan never played Kareem
