GAMEDAY!!!!

Where were those refs from ? They were absolutely terrible. The interception call was one of the worst video replay missed calls I've ever seen. There wasn't anything to interpret. He was clearly down from two different angles. The Dortch fumble was another terrible call.

Penalties called were also a bit mind-scrambling.

Even worse were the commentators. Which one was the doofi who was trying so hard to coach Tulane from the booth? I'm sure he would have put Fritz on his headset if NCAA rules allowed it.

I, for one, am shocked that when you play an AAC team on the road on CBSSportsnetwork that you end up with shitty officiating and shitty commentary.

Jay Feely. Former NFL kicker.

in the immortal words of Chris Berman, that would be Jay 'Feel Me Touch Me' Feely.

Jay Feely was the color guy, former NFL kicker. He kept on blaming Dortch for Hartman's first interception and I'm like what was Dortch supposed to do? He turned around and the ball wasn't thrown to that spot, he didn't have time to adjust back to the ball and "help his quarterback" as Feely kept saying. Now, maybe Dortch wasn't where he was supposed to be, I don't know, but he sure didn't time to adjust back to the back.

It was CBS SportsNetwork, that was probably their A-team.

If I have to blame a true frosh QB or one of the best WR in the nation, I’m not going to blame the WR.

Anybody else think it’s weird for a kicker to keep harping that guys could have caught balls? DJ Taylor and Bassey made great fingertip plays and Feely was like “he should have had an interception.”

I don't know. You have to assume he knows a lot about football even though he was "just a kicker." If you made the a similar criticism about Jessica Mendoza on the ESPN baseball broadcasts, who played fucking softball, you'd be called a misogynist.

I don't really care about the commentators... But the referees incompetence could have cost us that game

I thought the worst part of the commentary was explaining over and over and over how many yards each team would need to get on a given drive to "make them feel good about kicking the field goal."

It's not like their incompetence didn't go both ways. Their non-call on the clear PI on us (the kid from Asbury Park, don't remember his name) in the left flat in the 4th Quarter should have kept one of Tulane's drives alive. And we deserved to have the INT stand - that was an awful decision that deserved an INT and I don't mind not getting bailed out of because of a millisecond of timing.

I would have liked to have known how many true freshmen quarterbacks were starting nationwide. Seems like a missed opportunity not to give us that information.

As for the game itself, we won on the road against a seemingly solid team that received some attention as an upset pick despite going -2 in the turnover battle (not counting the hook-and-ladder nonsense at the end of OT, if we even recovered that) and missing a 24-yard field goal. We had more passing yards, more rushing yards, more plays, and more first downs. The defense was sharp except for three boneheaded plays (long gain on the first drive and two TD's). There's plenty of room for improvement, but I came away fairly optimistic.

51 Attempts for 378 yards and only 23 points, the Belk Bowl this was not. There will be some growing pains with Hartman, who looked really good in certain situations. I can not see Wake throwing 50 plus passes a game the rest of the season.

Surratt looked as good as everyone said he would. Carney turned it on in OT. Colburn had an off night.

We have the weapons, just got to work on the game plan now. Not gonna lie, had that old feeling in the pit of my stomach in the 4th quarter that comes with being a Wake fan, but we got the W and on to Towson.

At least the broadcast adjusted from using their replay during live action because we were playing fast. I also really enjoyed the AAC commercial where they reference they are a proud member of the power 6, like what the fuck is the power 6. I guess it’s fitting since it’s the same conference that just makes up they had a national championship last year.

I think that we will get the running game going, but what I assumed would be strengths, were weaknesses and vice versa last night. A turnover here or there last night on D would have been massive. It felt like for a majority of the game that if a significant break went our way the game would be out of reach for Tulane.

That being said when they had 1st down on our side of the field late I poured out my last beer and brushed my teeth to get ready for bed because I thought it was over. Glad I was wrong.

Didn’t mind the commentating considering the channel it was on. Can’t expect top notch commentating when play on a channel many people don’t get service for.

We found our QB. Defense really stepped up. We are 1-0. All those yards earned will turn into more points as we adjust.

Never been so hopeful after an OT win against a mid-tier AAC team.

Refs all around sucked. Missed a couple PIs (Dortch in the end zone on one of our early drives, Tulane on third down when we got there early), don’t believe they called a single hold, blatantly missed the late hit on Dortch out of bounds after his third down catch at the 40, and obviously missed Hartman’s knee being down on the interception (sure it was a dumb mistake to throw it but that’s inexcusable to miss on replay).

Guess it’s their first game of the year too.

What a win.

What’s Newman’s status injury wise? I hope he gets some PT vs Towson. Because I’m worried Hartman took a few too many shots which isn’t sustainable.

How about Herron? I hate football injuries. So predictable but so frustrating.

So proud of our team. Probably good to have a scare right out of the gates. Will serve us well later.

I love being able to say after our first game that “a star is born,” and it could apply to more than one freshman.
