I am about 200 pages into Dance.

Some really cool stuff thus far, but I don't like how there are SO MANY characters this time around...

and yes, it is a thread with spoilers but like you, a lot of people are at different points so we are attempting not to spoil people like you that are just now coming by so we use the spoiler button.
 
My boy griff has the grey! NO freaking way. I was just stunned. Why would they give Tyrion such a hard time about it and yet Griff allows himself to be around Aegon. Makes no sense. Why doesn't he cut his finger off??? Ugh... another twist... Will Arianne marry Aegon to unite Martell and Targaryen?

Greenseer power seems pretty lame. Granted I am only 500 pages in but all he can do is be a warg and jump into the trees minds. how is that sweet? will he ever get to leave the caves too? Lame.

Bran being able to warg into creatures too. Like Dragons perhaps??
 
Also - I am about 95% done Dance and I am disappointed. VERY disappointed.

I just finished Book 4 yesterday so I'll probably buy Dance with Dragons soon. I had one particular thought on Brienne that I want some input on:

I thought it was disappointing that her quest basically ended with her getting hanged. I know GRRM's writing style might be such that she survives, but I was starting to like her as a character.

I started liking Brienne's chapters too, but mainly because outside of her Arya and Jamie, the rest of the book was slow.

As with any character, you never know what he is going to do next - he throws everyone for loops. I am still shocked that he actually killed off Ned at the end of book 1!
 
Can someone explain the prologue of Book 4 involving Pate? The writing makes it seem like he dies, yet he appears in the last chapter.

The alchemist shares the exact same description of Jaqen H'ghar. Pate is killed by Jaqen with a poisoned coin (something to remember when reading book five btw) who then presumably uses the identity of Pate for some yet unknown agenda
