Wake Forest Football Recruiting

Just wanted to pop in to drop some love for Claw and his staff. Those guys are keeping the Deacon fan base alive and have been a great distraction to the mess that is Basketball. Kudos to Ron for the good hire, kudos to Claw for making the most of it and building a program that fans can be proud of. Most importantly, the guys on the field have bought into Clawson's teachings and have played with so much pride the last few years. They also seem like top notch men and great representatives of MSD off the field.

The 2019 class is awesome on paper and "We can all agree" that a couple of those guys will end up playing above their rankings. The future is bright for WFU Football and I have the utmost confidence that Claw will keep the train heading in the right direction. I foresee some quality 8+ win seasons in our near future. GO DEACS

When you consider how many players committed to us and then decommitted the quality of this class is amazing

76, CJ is 6'7' and 260 right now. Go look at his senior film. It will be ok.....

BG, I was looking at our 4 "DE"s. Two are 220 lbs, the others are 250+. They will be inside in a 4 pt. stance in 2 years. As per the OL, mobility and strength seems more important than being 330 lbs. I should have explained it that my point was for our DT poisition.

According to 247 sports, our all-time highest rated recruits are:

1. Nolan Groulx Class of 2019
2. Donavon Greene Class of 2019
3. Josh Adams Class of 2006
4. AJ Marshall Class of 2010
5. Shamar McCollum Class of 2019

Outside of the OL from CLT and the QB that ended up at ND - who else decommitted?

And how many did we end up with that were once committed somewhere else? At least 3 I believe (including our two highest rated recruits).

The class is ranked 10th in the ACC and 46th nationally.

State - 26th - 22 commits
UNC - 36th - 19 commits
Duke - 40th - 21 commits
Wake - 46th - 20 commits

I love Clawson, and trust his recruiting approach, but it would be nice to not finish last for once compared to our in state rivals.

Temper your reliance on recruiting rankings. Particularly in football. They are so subjective. Time has proven that Clawson is better at evaluating whether a 3 star RB from Memphis is better than a 4 star RB from SC that WF could've signed. Unlike hoop when the best players play against each other every summer, there is no equivalent in football. FB recruiting rankings do a reasonably good job at determining the best of the best, the five stars, but after that, their ability judge the 38th best guard versus the 104th best guard is a complete guessing game.

I know it has been discussed and don’t want to open the stars don’t matter convo, but in reference to the N.C. ACC recruiting rankings, UNC got multiple commits from players with no P5 offers in the last week. Most of them were not ranked at the time of their commitment, but magically became mid three stars a few days later, which dramatically increased UNCs ranking. If those same players committed to us, they would be ranked low three-high 2 star range. If anyone would like examples, I’ll gladly give you them, but I follow this stuff pretty closely. Don’t worry too much about the difference between our class and UNCs.

Unless I'm forgetting a lot, we don't take many non-grad transfers.
