2018 NFL Season ends: Patriots win Superbowl!

I think firing Gase is a mistake by the Dolphins.

Generally, if you are firing someone who is likely to be a top candidate for a number of other NFL HC jobs, then you probably made a mistake.

Do they think they're getting Harbaugh?

The rest of those guys suck, though.

This isn't always true. Sometimes teams and coaches just need change.

Andy Reid and Philly are an example. Because of things that happened in Andy Reid's life near the end of his time in Philly, he needed to move and the Eagles needed a new coach. Both have become better for the change.

wait until the chiefs blow a game in the playoffs this year

Agree that it isn’t always the case. I’m saying it was a mistake in this case.

Sounds like Gase lost the team by sticking with Tannehill, so maybe a change needed to be made. But I doubt Miami does better and I think whoever hires Gase gets an upgrade.

You're probably right in this case. Three years isn't usually enough time for things to go stale. But picking the wrong QB can lead to a coach needing to go.

Brown's choice will be interesting. Did Greg Williams do enough as interim head coach to get the job?

Park Avenue in NY would be less then thrilled if they made Williams the permanent HC. I just don't see him and his personality ever getting a HC gig in the league. Plus, with a young QB, the league tendency now is to hire an offensive oriented coach.

Also kinda surprised by the Phins and Bengals firing Gase and Lewis. One thing I'll say for Marvin is that he's kept Cincy relevant and competitive over the last decade plus. They weren't before that, and the league joke used to be the Bengals are on the clock. I'm betting they return to being a joke because Mike Brown always does everything on the cheap. And I'm also less than impressed with Ross in Miami. Will be interesting to see where Tannehill lands - probably on a 1 year prove it type of deal.

Feel likes it particularly hard in football to isolate a coach’s performance from the roster. E.g. did Todd Bowles ever have a good team that didn’t play up to its talent?

Yep, fair. Bowles' teams overachieved significantly in two of his four years -- 2015 when they nearly made the playoffs and last year when they probably had the worst roster in football yet were competitive. Now he gets shown the door right before the team can invest heavily in free agency and the draft with its young QB in place.

Probably deserves another HC shot somewhere down the line

With how well they did and all the picks this year, Greg Williams really got screwed. He earned next year.

Assuming he doesn't get a HC job, and there are more openings than obviously over-qualified available candidates, Bowles will be the hot commodity as a DC.

Steve Wilks will be the DC that teams are looking for.

So Sean McDermott gets another year ?

If Fangio leaves the Bears, would be awesome to get Bowles.

Yeah, McD has been great. Buffalo overachieved both seasons

Jay Gruden meeting with Dan Snyder "soon" on his future in Washington. Unfortunately the "his" in this case is Gruden, not Snyder.

Our old friend Zac Taylor is going to get some looks from teams.

No one cares about the rskins

If Smith is done, they're in serious trouble next year no matter who their coach is. They're salary cap strapped because of Smith's salary, and they're not drafting low enough to get Haskins. Their best bet could be to try to get Bridgewater or Tannehill on the cheap.

And in other news, Antonio Brown may now be on the trading block along with Fournette.

Could Fournette have a John Riggins - like career revival and extension with a year off from bumps and bruises? Some team will take that gamble.

A slug like Fournette just doesn't have much value in today's NFL. That was an incredibly dumb draft pick.
