• Welcome to OGBoards 10.0, keep in mind that we will be making LOTS of changes to smooth out the experience here and make it as close as possible functionally to the old software, but feel free to drop suggestions or requests in the Tech Support subforum!

TIERS!!!

It seems like it's been a LONG time since we had many/any current students become regular posters. Unsurprising given the state of our basketball program, the rebuilding of football and the movement away from forums as a means of interacting online, but still interesting. How long until this place dies out and/or fades into a different social medium?

I always thought navigating away from a tie with one of the recruiting services hurt the ability to attract students... But I am not sure why I feel that way.

Kent was a pretty negative poster. He had one of the best aliases in board history, JohnNottheBaptist. He was responsible for the annotated Wellman interview about Caldwell in 1999 or 2000. That was one of the early great posts.

The NotaBaptist would be a great Wellman interview today.

I doubt the concept of a WF message board will totally die out anytime too soon. As most of you become OWGs (or go further down that path), this is the means of communicating you're comfortable with and there will be reluctance to move on to something less familiar.

To be a completist of WF online discussion, you have to begin with RSBC. There was like, 4 of us in 90 or 91, but Wake Forest was being discussed on the Internet there.

Didn't someone on the old boards once convince Clemson fans that Wake Forest was located in Wake Forest, NC before we had a home game? Perhaps that was just urban legend.

I started following recruiting rankings as a high schooler on the original Scout around 02, and joined the boards after lurking for a while. Remember trying to get one of my HS football teammates recruited by Wake, and he actually did get a decent look before getting hurt. Ended up going to Harvard and starting for a couple years.

My first visit to the AOL Sports message board was in 1992. I went there because they had a Monday night trivia game, where if you won, you received 2 free hours of AOL. That was gold back then.

Did the trivia game to win 2 hours take an hour to play?

I have published this - or parts of this - before, I think. On March 18, 1997, our AOL site had a ListServe with 73 Wake fans signed up. Here are some of the screen names, several of which are still active here 22 years later (under the same or similar handles or, in some cases - such as me - an entirely different handle): CL68, CoachO, DeacHead1, Mandars, RictheDeac, SuzRichard, Swimsouth, Timyanks1, Wak4est, Warrenbat, WFU71, dhs, jheydt, davehall, brownah5. MikeDeac was also around then but not on this list.

Were any of you there when a bunch of AOL board members got together at a private home in Winston-Salem and had dinner prior to a Wake basketball game? I believe it was hosted by either Mandars or SuzRichard.

Any chronology of Wake Forest message board history would be incomplete without pouring one out for the board created by WF Rulz.

I wonder whatever happened to the guy whose trip back to Jacksonville in 2006 was paid for by the boards.

I started posting in June of 98 on Kent’s board, I think. Accboards.com came shortly thereafter.

20 years. Damn.

Isn’t DeacPops his dad? Since he was an obnoxious Yankees fan, I didn’t contribute.

Whatever happened DUnit? That guy was a complete piece of work. Always assumed he was a parody but never was certain.

I am a tree expert. Just kidding and I don’t remember trying to convince anyone of that either.

Man, I wish I remember who did it. There was a picture of a Clemson recruit holding a bunch of cash, and the Clemson poster was arguing (perhaps correctly) that the recruiter's dad or uncle was owned ATMs or something...

Anyway, the Wake poster argued convincingly that based on the trees in the photo the recruit was located in city X and could not have been filling ATM in city y.
