Possible Wake Forest Coaching Candidates Analysis

My source is telling me the extension is incentive based. If he hits the incentives and gets fired hes owed 18 million, if he doesnt hit the incentives and gets fired hes only owed 3.6 million. And my guess is he wont hit the incentives so there you go.

If the $3.6M is correct, DR should write a check from his petty cash account.

Now this seems a lot more realistic than the "OMG Jeff Goodman is the word of God we owe Danny Manning 18 million dollars !!!!!!!!!!!111111!!!!!!" take

The people castigating others for rooting for the opposition may wish to incorporate this new info into their thought process. There is such a thing as the wisdom of considering the long term health of Wake Forest basketball.

Any idea the incentive levels? Tourney appearance/performance I assume.

Also this board’s version of a Wojbomb should evidently be called a bigboybomb

I would love to know what those incentives are. Also, if true, it tells me wake can afford to pay the right coach. If wake ends up with another coach from the bargain bin...

That would make a lot more sense. 18M for a Final 4 is a lot different than 18M for 9 wins. If true, this clears the way to hire any coach to a competitive contract.

The incentive explanation makes a lot of sense. Probably, why it is inaccurate. :tard:

Yes, at 9-14 (2-9) right now and several unwinnable games to go, would appear that all overall record/ACC record incentives are out of reach. So, barring a completely impossible ACC Tourney run, the bargain basement buyout clause should be in play.

And there is your reason to do the unthinkable and cheer against the Deacs

I doubt there is much of an incentive bump at 10 or 11 wins in a season.

No doubt there are some AD lurkers looking at this thread thinking "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!" Wake fans now think a a $3.6M buyout is reasonable for a coach with 4 20 loss seasons in 5 years. Keep in mind $3.6M buyout at this point is pretty much equal to giving a 4-year fully guaranteed contract to a coach for making the First Four.

I hear you, and agree that WF miscalculated when/if it agreed to a buyout between $3.5 and $4 million for a coach that had no place to go when his contract was extended, but a $3.6 million buyout is massively better, and more importantly gives WF a lot more flexibility, than a $18 million commitment through 2024.

This.

Yeah it’s possible that Goodman or the source misunderstood the terms of the contract. That said he didn’t say the buyout would be 18 mil he said the contract was guaranteed at 18 mil. I don’t know if that’s simply semantics here or what.

There's no way the source is correct. We didn't give Danny Manning a fully guaranteed contract. That's absolute insanity. Wellman isn't that stupid.

Which is why it's a good look for the AD even though it's a horrible move. If you want to know how $18M got out there, it only benefits the AD by making the real numbers look good in comparison.
