Reports began to surface on Wednesday that Duke had extended a scholarship offer to 2019 big man Charles Coleman, a 7-foot center from Boston who recently de-committed from Wake Forest. The news was first announced by Coleman's AAU training facility, Wrightwayskills.com on their social media feed.
Coleman is ranked as a three star prospect and a top 350 player in the country according to 247Sports.com had actually visited Durham early last season, but Duke elected not to offer the prospect at that time. Instead the Blue Devils pursued other players including five star centers Vernon Carey and Isaiah Stewart.
Duke, of course, landed Carey, but missed on Stewart who committed to Washington.
Though the loss of Stewart hurt, it was expected to be nullified by the presence of a pair of senior big men in Javin DeLaurier and Marques Bolden. However, both players declared for the NBA Draft and while neither was invited to the NBA Scouting Combine in Chicago, neither player has committed to returning to Durham either.
And so the Blue Devil coaching staff appears to be looking to add some depth to the roster inside behind Carey, the projected starter at the center position for Mike Krzyzewski's team this season.
