BBall Recruiting Thread 2k19 - Charles Coleman de-commits to Wake. :(

It is depressing (but not surprising) that a player like this would rather go to Duke and sit the bench than come to Wake and compete for significant minutes from day one.

Sucks that we couldn't nail this down earlier... No idea if he's any good, but we NEED another big (or two).

Don’t worry, another big will not solve anything for next season.

Reports began to surface on Wednesday that Duke had extended a scholarship offer to 2019 big man Charles Coleman, a 7-foot center from Boston who recently de-committed from Wake Forest. The news was first announced by Coleman's AAU training facility, Wrightwayskills.com on their social media feed.

Coleman is ranked as a three star prospect and a top 350 player in the country according to 247Sports.com had actually visited Durham early last season, but Duke elected not to offer the prospect at that time. Instead the Blue Devils pursued other players including five star centers Vernon Carey and Isaiah Stewart.

Duke, of course, landed Carey, but missed on Stewart who committed to Washington.

Though the loss of Stewart hurt, it was expected to be nullified by the presence of a pair of senior big men in Javin DeLaurier and Marques Bolden. However, both players declared for the NBA Draft and while neither was invited to the NBA Scouting Combine in Chicago, neither player has committed to returning to Durham either.

And so the Blue Devil coaching staff appears to be looking to add some depth to the roster inside behind Carey, the projected starter at the center position for Mike Krzyzewski's team this season.

Cliffs notes: Duke looked at him and passed. Now that a pair of their players pulled an unexpected Bryant Crawford and they missed on one of their 5-star centers, they are in desperate need of someone for their remaining 5-star freshman to bang on in practice. Coleman's AAU coach is looking to get his name out there, so he's giving the kid bad advice while making himself the gatekeeper of info. Rather than going to a mid-major where he'd have a chance to play and potentially develop, he'll go get used by Duke and then be asked to transfer when K identifies 5-star talent that he'd rather have on his bench in 1-2 years.

Exactly. Fits Kaye's MO of using players to get wins while hurting their future basketball careers.

Manning is the opposite. He finds a way to completely misuse the player's talents without damaging their ability to make bank in the future.

The two things that I like from the only short mix tape I watched is he's a wide body that uses it to his advantage on offense and he doesn't put the ball on the floor much when close to the basket.
