Wake Forest Football Recruiting

George Sell is another fantastic commitment. He has absolutely blown up over the last several months with a load of p5 offers. These include BC, Louisville, MSU, duke, Indiana, GT, and a bunch of others. We have rarely gotten OL recruits with these offer lists. He is another player that is not flashy from a “star rating” perspective, but has the offer list, size and highlights that pass the test. Great job by the coaches.

Individually the commitments each look good and Clawson and staff have proven to be very good at evaluating talent. That said the average rankings of Wake's recruits is not as good as last year and the average ranking is about last in the ACC.

Right now it’s the sixth ranked class in the ACC.

Great recruiting weekend for Clawson and company!

Well if the recruits aren’t as good as last year, this currently 19th ranked recruiting class will be icing on cake

After national signing day it's likely Wake's class will be nationally ranked in the 45 to 65 range.

Right now it’s the sixth ranked class in the ACC.

The only reason Wake's class is currently ranked 6th is because Wake currently has more commitments than the other teams in the ACC that Wake is ranked ahead of.

Comparing rankings before recruiting is finalized with national signing day doesn't really mean anything. Comparing the average rankings of Wake's recruits is a more accurate/better measurement until national signing day and recruiting is finalized.

With all of that said it will be interesting to see how the current commitments' senior seasons go and where they end up with their final rankings. I noticed that the average recruit's ranking was trending lower as compared to last year and thought it was worth pointing out and discussing.

Yep. Time will tell if Clawson is beating the star system. Right now, he’s getting the players he wants. I’d rather my coach have a scouting issue than a recruiting issue.

Not much competition where?

Here said we said there will be plenty you playing time and that I do not doubt. Carney will be gone. CBS is always banged up but we have a lot of young talented backs coming in. Flowers the kid from Tennessee, Delaney looks to be about to break out, Cooley Marshall. The other kid who is a red shirt freshman. Should be plenty of time and.plenty of competition. Honestly I believe this is the year where we start having two 1000 yd backs a season quite regularly for a while

Considering it’s happened like 85 times and history and 7 times total in the last 2 years (with no teams doing it both years) I doubt Wake starts doing it “quite regularly for a while”

It would be hard to keep the two leading rushers healthy enough to do that. We were #26 in total rushing yards last year. Top 25 in total and/or yards per carry is a good consistent goal. Maybe having two rushers combine for 1800 as well.

A lot of our rushing yards come from the quarterback as well

Good point.
With better depth and athletes, getting 2000 or more yards by committee would be good.
We'll have several different types of RBs along with QBs and WRs (for orbits) that should all control rushing yards and keep defenses guessing.

This recruiting class is rolling. Picking up a lot of talent on both sides of the ball, in key positions. OL and DL have high level commits. We just landed the top RB in the state of NC. Really all the offense needs is a great WR to commit to be rounded out. Defense could use a good safety and DT. I like all of the guys committed so far and hope we keep all of them on signing day.

Now the task will be keeping these recruits committed until the December signing period. A WF offer signals other programs that the recruit can play.

Yep. In some ways the hard work of recruiting is just beginning, at least with respect to those who have made verbal commitments.

here here-- getting kids to commit who have a lot of other nice offers. Getting the #1 running back in the state is huge. Clawson has sown he can identify talent and now he his getting the kids he wants. If he can hold on to them this could be a banner year

Our staff has a very good record of hanging on to commitments. I think Clawson works hard at identifying players who really want to be at Wake as well as being a great judge of "football" potential and developing the players we sign. We lose a few here and there but not that many.

Great weekend for Clawson and the staff. That is what you want. I think we are now done at RB and DE for this class. Too bad we missed out on Tyler Venables, but I heard he has some familiarity with the Clemson coaching staff. Would like to see a DT and S to join soon.
