Wake Forest Football Recruiting

Witter got an offer early last week and immediately took a visit to OU on Saturday. I would give us a 10% chance of holding on to him, if that.

They offered 3 weeks ago, according to his HS coach.

Do we withdraw offers to recruits who have been committed to us for 8 months and visit another school at the 11th hour? Is it just a coincidence that we flipped a slot receiver from Kent St. after the Oklahoma visit? And has the QB who dumped us for ND played any for the Irish?

We were dumped by Taylor Powell who went to Mizzou (27 of 62 0 TD 1 INT career) the same recruiting class as Bowers and by Brendon Clark last year, who has not played.

Ke´Shawn Williams who committed to Kent State has not flipped yet according to 247.

Joe Kane OG from VTech has entered the transfer portal. He held a Wake offer out of HS.

Joe Kane is listed as a R-FR on the VaTech roster. He has no stats for this season. Under the rules as I undetstand them, he would have to sit out two seasons if he transfers to another ACC school. Not likely to happen. Interesting side note, most of the HS accolades in his bio were for his play (31 sacks, 200 tackles) as DT, including in the Shrine bowl. Built like a nose tackle. 6-2, 305.

The 247 transfer article about Kane, who went to Heritage HS in Wake Forest, said he held offers from Syracuse and "hometown Wake Forest."

Old guy here - Once you make a commitment, you honor it unless there's a substantive change (coach leaves, probation, etc.). Happy Thanksgiving!

He would have played next year at Wake.

Oh well, he's 17 or 18 years old. I do wish him well.

Selfishly would have loved to have him here of course but hope he at least gets to play. I always hate seeing these kids who are clear backup plans get buried on the bench at bigger schools.

I know this is hard for some to understand here but Oklahoma is a much better football school than Wake is. He’ll have a chance to compete for national titles much easier than here. They’ve had multiple Heisman winners in the last 20 years. They have 80K+ attend their games. And every kid going in thinks that he can play wherever he’s going if he’s being offered a scholarship. I think the bigger question is why he committed to Wake to begin with because they’re obviously completely different places.

This got me thinking—have we ever had a football de-commit go to one of the football factories and become a standout/star there? None are springing to mind. I remember a QB that went to Alabama that never played and ended up at North Texas. The Missouri and Notre Dame QBs as well. Any others?

He’s a 4-star LB. He’s not a clear backup plan.

He was never a commit, but Logan Thomas visited wake approximately 872 times and had a good career at VT. But to your actual question, I cannot think of any.

They wouldn't have waited until November to offer if he wasn't a backup plan. It puts things into perspective when our highest ranked recruit is a backup plan for a football factory. We have no linebacker commits now so it's probably time to poach from the MAC or Sunbelt.

We have to get more athletic if we want to compete with top schools. I think our offensive scheme neutralizes some of the athletic/talent discrepancies but I don't ever see it working against teams like Clemson.
