Syracuse Game Time 12:30 pm, RSN

So, if they win their bowl games, then WF will have beaten 3 more teams with winning records. Hope that will make everyone happier. Weird how hard people are trying to take a dump on the football season. Definitely some ups and downs, but more ups from my perspective. Love our coach and the direction of the program.

Absolutely.

Our program needs to learn how to play for more than six wins and in-state rivalries.

Wake has won more than 6 games every year for the past 4 years. C’mon.

Yesterday was our last opportunity to use Hintons skill set and give him a run pass option. Literally every coach in the country would have used that weapon throughout the season. Love Clawson, but that’s weak. So is the lack of even a simple jet sweep to keep defenses guessing. I’m honestly frustrated by it.

I love Clawson and think he is a smart coach and will keep Wake on an upward swing.

That said, I think he needs to make some adjustments to his thinking now that he is playing in a power 5 conference. At Bowling Green and some of his past jobs, he was able to recruit players good enough to win games without a lot of misdirection.
Wake will never be able to line up and run plays that the opponent expects and just out execute their opponent.

We are second in the ACC (behind Clemson) and 13th in the country in total offense.

What he's saying is playing in meaningless bowl games and considering the season a success by beating Duke and State are not the next step. The next step is getting to 9 and 10 win regular seasons when the scheduling allows it and playing in big bowl games. Then if that happens, the next step would be challenging to win the ACC consistently and occasionally competing in the CFP. Some fans are content just getting to bowl games in general, other fans want to see Wake Forest climb to the highest heights. Clawson himself wants to compete for championships, so people who want to keep him around should adopt the mentality that we must keep going up.

I agree with your point but isn’t a bowl game the last opportunity? Or did I miss he will miss the bowl game?

Like most people, I didn't expect the ACC to be so weak this year. Also, like most people, I have come to expect Wake will choke at least once on a game they should win. Given how bad our schedule actually was in retrospect, 9 or 10 wins would have been a good season. Syracuse was nowhere near what they were expected to be in preseason. Our schedule was weak, going 8-4 was the result of 2 choke jobs against beatable teams. Other games were closer than they needed to be. Not a bad season, but not as good as it should have been.

Sure - The ACC conference schedule was weaker than expected in 'retrospect'.

But in 'retrospect' how many games lower would your regular season prediction of 7 wins have been adjusted if you knew in 'retrospect' that 2 of our top 4/5 defenders would miss a majority of the season, our starting QB would be out for the better part of 2 conference games, and our biggest playmakers on offense wouldn't participate in 50% of conference games?

41st in scoring offense. Now some of that was due to our poor special teams play in general where we never flipped the field.

But we had 56 trips to the red zone and only scored 30 TDs.

Then he should have said that.

I am 100% on board with your take and I absolutely think Wake can compete for championships. I also think those that claim Wake doesn’t have, or can’t recruit, top notch talent are wrong.

I will add, however, that beating UNC, State, and Duke is an important part of the process, because it helps us land instate talent.

That is true, but the offense struggled mightily against the better defensive teams (Clemson & VA Tech). It also was much less productive later in the year once teams were more prepared for what Wake was doing.

We needed to add more wrinkles and misdirection once teams began loading the box to stop the run.

Would love to see a Venn diagram of the fans who want to see Wake Forest climb to the highest heights and the ogboards.com keyboard jockeys who don't bother attending games or supporting the program financially.

against the 65th or so best schedule

surely there is a site that adjusts offensive output for strength of schedule; how do we stack up there?

I am not necessarily disagreeing with your point - I am just saying total offense in a vacuum is an incomplete statistic

Can't speak for everyone, but I've probably been to more football, basketball and soccer games over the past 5 years then 98% of these boards.

I agree, but UNC recruiting to the level they are and getting the types of attendance they are despite a mediocre season are concerning. Wake Forest has all the momentum in-state right now, and needs to capitalize now or the moment will pass.

Clawson doesn't actually land a lot of in state talent. Most of his recruiting classes are from out of state.

Yeah. He’ll play in the bowl game. So not technically the last opportunity. But if we were saving that to try and win a Sun Bowl vs go 9-3, that’s even worse.

Interesting takes on this thread from someone who predicted 7 regular season wins in the preseason prediction thread...
It's almost like rational and smart people can reset their expectations and opinions after they have more and better data..meanwhile, you still defend Wellman.

your parents being rich doesn’t count for you brad

UNC has out recruited Wake for the last 50 years. Clawson has Wake 15th in the nation in total offense.
