Basham, Surratt, Hartman and Kern return

Quit LYING about me ASSHOLE. I was for firing Wellman for 7+ years.

Quit LYING and saying I said Jamie couldn't be successful at WF. I said the CURRENT stop RPO wasn't good for him, not the school.

I guess you can't help yourself when it comes to LYING.

There there, millennial

To play QB for Mike Leach?? Are you joking??

Also I believe the WAZZU QB this past season is graduating and threw for 400+ yards per game and close to 50 TD's.

They are pretty horrible. The system would be better for NFL you could say, but the team is worse.

IMO Newman is first looking to stay healthy, and secondly trying to improve his draft stock... He was beat up this year, and with our history of thin depth at OL I'm sure he wants to go a school with a great o-line to not only protect him, but let him show his stuff (for better or worse).

Good observation. Perhaps Newman is saying something about his confidence in the OL for next season?

For the love of god, is it too much to ask to implement some form of screen passing packages? For some reason we rarely if ever setup a nice dump off screen pass to our RB to offset a blitz, but damn it if we haven't been burned time and time again on defense by screens.

This is my major problem with this take. No one is making these people play football. All sports are entertainment. People start playing at a young age because they want to. That’s it. It’s his decision to do this just like it’s his decision to transfer and keep doing this and play in the NFL so he can CONTINUE to do this.
Still not sure what underhanded comment you were trying to make about my name but whatever.
I suspect he was referring to the "dixie" and making an insinuation based on that.

I see A’lique Terry is the ast ol coach at Oregon maybe he’s been helping with the recruiting

This is my take as well. I'm disappointed to see Jamie go, and it especially rubs me the wrong way that he's clearly had this plan for a while. But, the idea that Jamie should be doing anything except make the best decision for his future NFL career is crazy. The whole loyalty concept is stupid. I'm loyal to Jaime for the three hours I watch him on TV every week. He doesn't owe me or any other fan anything. He gave Wake 4 years and exceeded all expectations during that time.

I can't say I see this as an old white dude thing (which is generally a lazy argument to begin with). The people saying, "He QUIT on his teammates and BETRAYED our team and I hope he DIAF" are more representative of what you would see from the fanbase of a big football factory, the rabid, froth-at-the-mouth folks who just want to win as many football games as possible, no matter if that means a few under-the-table payments, stripper/hooker parties, or *gasp* the opposing teams not thinking we're classy.

The Ron Wellman/LOWF/"Let's play the opposing team's fight song" crowd, whom I think are a better representation of the OWG, would be positively aghast at such behavior. They would seem to be much more simpatico with the "I'll give that nice young man a golf clap as he succeeds for one of our competitors instead of for Wake Forest! After all, who would want to win games more than to maintain our dignity, class, and integrity?" point of view.

FWIW, I think the over-the-top reactions are unseemly and embarrassing. However, if we had more fans and administrators like that, who cared more about winning than being nice, we would probably have better sports programs.
Yep

It would be interesting to do a side-by-side of some of the posts here and those from 3 months ago on the Newman for Heisman thread.

I seem to be in the minority here, but I'm pretty irritated that he is leaving. None of these programs were willing to give him a chance, but now he wants to jump ship. And why is that going to Oregon will substantially help his pro prospects?

Why? Sometimes I change my mind when presented with new/different information. It doesn't make you superior to be stubborn and never change your outlook or opinion on anything.

Football is a lot different than basketball for recruiting. There isn't a true AAU for all schools to see. It's so much harder to see the non-Top 15 recruits at each position in HS. Especially those a thousand or more miles away.

By the end of the season, teams started catching up with our scheme causing Jamie to get beaten up badly. When we lose multiple career starting offensive lineman, this will make it worse. Although we will have excellent receivers next year, Jamie is likely to have been beaten up even worse next year.

I understand losing Sage and Scotty was devastating, but Jamie's play really went downhill. He might need a fresh start. Plus, he did graduate and stayed for four years.

Possible explanation of why Newman decided to leave: Clawson was o.k. with going into fall camp with competition at the QB spot, in which case if it's Hartman and he gets thru the year successfully/healthy, then Newman's draft prospects and possibly free agent looks are gone. With Wake/Clawson he had minimal leverage; now there are another 130 or so FBS schools from which he should be able to find at least one that runs a pro-style offense and who will practically guarantee him the majority of snaps if he'll commit to a transfer.

You would also have to do a comparison of his stats at those times compared to now. He got progressively worse through the year. Losing Surratt and Washington certainly contributed to his decline, but spiking balls 5 yards in front of receivers has nothing to do with injuries to receivers.

If Newman goes to NCSU or Duke, he will never be welcome at WFU again. He’s not going to burn all of his bridges at Wake Forest.

UVA would be another potential attractive landing spot for Newman in the ACC. Not much competition at QB with Perkins graduating and UVA returns an experienced OL and defense. Newman is already familiar with the ACC and it's also within a reasonable driving distance for his family to go to games.

If he wants to be in a system to not get hurt, UVA would be about last on the list. Perkins was injured for 2/3 of the year because of all the hits he took.
