Manning Buyout Negotiations Have Begun

This is where it also matters that Wake has to recruit smart kids.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the talent on this team for the last 3 years (and really, all 6 under Danny, but especially the last 3) outweighs the results on the court. Players know if they're not being put in position to succeed.

Completely off-topic, but with being quarantined at home and everything slowing down, I'd like to ask if you could do an article on the way-way-way to early projected depth chart for Wake Football in game 1.

Need something fun to think about.

Sure. Players will typically support the staff and that is fine. Also, strongly disagree with those expecting the players to say bad things about their coach and recommend his dismissal. That’s not a fair position to put them in. Most years, that coach will be back and maintain control over their college career.

Well, 1 senior certainly didn’t say anything good about the staff.

Actually did just file a football notebook that will hopefully post in an hour or two.

I don't know about a depth chart though. Just not sure how much will have changed from the pre-spring depth chart. Five practices, three with pads, isn't ground to change much of anything, IMO.

Now in the summer when we're starved for content ... that tune might change.

@CONeill, have you heard anything at all from Wake's AD relating to men's basketball in the last week and a half? I know you obviously haven't heard about the big thing, but curious if they are talking to press about anything relating to that program.

I have no clue why I keep checking the boards for good news. That fucker is here to stay. We are a cursed fan base

Here's what most of us know:

Currie doesn't want Danny to coach next year
Players don't want Danny coaching next year
Board of directors doesn't want Danny to coach next year
Fans don't want Danny coaching next year
Danny's family doesn't want to deal with this crap and doesn't want him coaching next year
He's the worst coach in Wake history
He's the most stubborn coach in Wake history
He's graduated less players than any coach in Wake history

He has a contract that is absurdly favorable to him and he unapologetically is using it to his advantage every step of the way.

One would assume that Danny's ideal scenario is that we fire him, he gets his payday and he's coaching the big men in Lawrence next year.

I still think he's gone. He'd be such an ass clown to come back. Do the right thing, Danny. Meet us in the middle

It is amazing to see what the external environment has done to college basketball coaching changes.

DePaul is negotiating an extension with Dave Leitao
Terry Porter is keeping his job at Portland (where he has gone 1-31 in conference play his last 2 years as HC and his son is grad transferring out).

SMU is keeping Tim Jankovich and this parady twitter account pretty much sums it up

So your calculus does not involve a global economic crisis. Seriously?

It does play a factor, of course. You'll never hear me say anything contradictory of that, which is why I'm not part of the "Fuck you Currie" crew. Having said that, Currie has had almost a full year to raise funds for this.

I think this is a Danny Manning problem. If the players loved him and he had a big recruiting class coming in then I could almost justify him wanting to hang on to this, despite the administration and fans against him. But he literally has nothing but a fucked up pile of papers that's keeping him in WS.

Hey BobHWS - fuck off with that neg rep, bro.

You don't know your ass from your elbow about what's going on inside the program. Do you talk to the players? Coaches? Board directors? Multiple insiders have confirmed that the players want him gone...so come on.

Locked up and communicating with seemingly nobody. All I've got is that we'll hear from Currie when a decision is made.

Pretty clear Currie is trying like all hell to get the fucker out of here working under the new circumstances and isn't gonna announce anything until it's either done or all resources and efforts have been expended.

Something will come out on a random Thursday afternoon in like 3 weeks. Move on to something else for the time being, folks.

SHHHH, being rational is frowned upon here.

I would bet against them firing DM now.

If there were negotiations — which seemed to be legit info by some real posters – it doesn't seem unreasonable to think it broke-off once the coronavirus shtf.

They probably have only a month window before they don't have a choice but to retain. Too much uncertainty to know when things get back to normal. Any cash that was available for this has to be off the table or drying up fast with much more important needs.

Almost unbelievable that Manning (likely) is keeping a job when many others will lose them.

Hope I'm wrong.

The thing I can’t figure out at all is why Manning would want to even come back. Is it really worth it for him?

There is literally no support for him that I’m aware of. The number of fans in seats is falling rapidly and is going to plummet next year if he’s back. Who would put themselves through that if there is an alternative on the table?

Well the alternative is presumably quite a bit less than $15 million. So the answer to your question is a lot of people would put up with continuing on for that kind of money.
