New coaching search thread

Man, I LOVE this hire. I feel confident that Forbes can right the ship quickly. He also has the energy and personality that will win over the fans and students. Huge day for Wake Forest basketball!

This is really exciting news. I'm with everyone else who's glad that he isn't a "Wake Forest" kind of guy. We need a shakeup- desperately. For all of the hand wringing over JUCOs, Forbes has a 100% graduation rate, which is much better than the last two coaches we have had. Also, it's nice to see a fanbase at ETSU who is actually sad to see the coach go, as opposed to the last two fanbases we took coaches from who were basically thrilled. This is as good a hire as Currie could have made and it's not the safe one. I like it.

The 100% graduation rate is encouraging. I trust Currie got enough right answers about the importance of academics. Also, Currie must have gotten comfortable with Forbes NCAA violation situation.

It would be smart for Forbes to put some strong words about the importance of academics in his initial introductory press conference.

Oh my god just stop. Forbes is a proven recruiter if HS players. Sorry you lost the culture war.

As has been said, Wellman would have never hired this guy which is a win off the bat. Wellman hated hiring anyone who might stand up to him and wouldn't be a gentleman Jim on the sidelines

I don't really like the dismissal of JUCOs in general. I know every comment isn't like this or intentional, but I have met some super smart and very hard working people who come from JUCOs/Community Colleges. We still may not recruit/admit them, but those kids are more than capable of getting through Wake. I mean, we've had a couple of prep guys who weren't ready right out of high school, either. I think we should probably just get over that as a fanbase, and I'd like to get over it as a policy, if it's an official one.

Agree. Also, we built out entire late 90s/early 2000s baseball run, which everyone looks back on so nostalgically, with JUCOs. I was a tutor at Wake in the Athletic Dept. during my time as a student. I wish we would just give up the delusional idea that we're recruiting student athletes who would have gotten into Wake anyway. That has never been the case. There are a multitude of reasons why that is and a lot of them have to do with just how privileged most of the students who get into a school like Wake are. We can do a really nice job at supporting student athletes to successful here.

I don't care if we go JUCO or don't. We could and it would be fine, though. It's so backwards and outdated to cling to as a policy/criteria.

Biggest problem, as I understand it, is transfer credits (or the lack thereof). I don't mind JUCO at all, but if we can't transfer their credits, it's a non-starter to bring them in.

Consolation prize for Wes, he doesn't have to go up against Forbes anymore.

I bet all of you who jumped on Les' ultra exclusive content behind that paywall feel like you got your monies worth today.

This is rich coming from a mod on a 'free' message board which pushed:

- The Tommy Amaker narrative
- Reported Forbes was out
- Reported Miller elected not to be a part of the process
- Matta was the pick

Les stuck to his guns on the 2 favorites before Roger Murdock staked out the Smith Reynolds airport.

That tweet from Anthony Bilas scares me.

Jay Bilas and Tommy Amaker are very, very close.

I hope the kid didn’t tweet that because he’s worried mean Wake fans will be rude to uncle Tommy.

Yeah, I think that's a bad policy on Wake admissions' end.

I've been reading the ETSU Board.

Boy, are those guys morose and dejected.

And the ones that aren't are stressing over who their replacement will be.

lol at the 2&2 crowd if Currie gets Forbes

Feel free, but you should be thanking me for highlighting fan displeasure, getting Manning fired, and bringing in a non-WFU guy who will push the envelope. Without me you'd have a year or two more of Manning followed by a decade of Tommy Amaker. You're welcome.

This is great news- thrilled with this hire . And I doubted Currie big time but Hear this..... great fucking job John Currie-you just did the best thing for WFU in ages.
A small part of me says slow down, wait until the press conference bc you never know , some strange shit might happen but I can’t help but be pumped.

As a few of us were saying and called idiots because of, this was the literally the perfect time to make a coaching change and Forbes can instantly change up the roster (assuming the rule change passes). So anyway great job John currie- way to let your nuts hang.

Thank you John Currie from the bottom of my old Black and Gold heart. I was a season ticket holder since 1965 who did not renew my ticket in 2019 because of Wellman's decision to bring back DFL, now I am back! Not my first choice but I am all in for this guy who I believe will not take any crap off the blue bloods in the ACC.

Also, not sure I would have been back if it would have been the little Blue Goat.

He did at ETSU, so no reason to not expect as much at Wake. He even used the same "when the ball stops bouncing" line as Manning.

This is a public square where people post whatever they want to. People here aren’t journalists
