Non-Political Coronavirus Thread

Both great news for us restarting Little League June 1. No spreading infection via the baseball as has been questioned, and gimme all that sunburn.

Pay no attention to the congregation in dugouts and parents sitting close to each other in the stands.

That's an opinion piece, and unfortunately not a very good one, with no new data.

Sure. Referencing a couple of studies but you do you. Stay out of the light.

Wait for your double blind placebo study that will be available in 6 months that you will still be able to find holes in. Must shelter in place.

What’s up with you infatuation with vitamin D? Have you been seeing a lot of cases of rickets in your clinic?

Getting some sun and eating healthy is great. I do plenty of both and encourage others to do the same. I just think it’s worth noting that there is almost 0% chance that vitamin D has any impact on COVID19 and there are real risks of taking too much vitamin D (such as stroke and heart attack).

One can’t overdose on a water-soluble vitamin because you’ll urinate it out (B12, for example). But one can cause damage with too much of a fat-soluble (ADEK) vitamin.

For those that like anecdotes, people in India have very low vitamin D levels on average, yet they have incredibly low COVID death rates (despite very high population density).

i bet his kids play travel ball too. fucking sucker.

Knowell vs. Science is a nice undercard matchup before RJ vs. Math.

I am sort of amazed that it seemed for weeks that society wouldn't return to normal for a very long time, including universities in the fall, fall sports, etc. Now it seems like everyone is just saying "fuck it" and prepared to open back up.

It's like people got bored and decided Covid was just over.

yup pretty much - it is categorically more dangerous out there now than mid-March yes no one seems to care anymore

I mean I get the "I'm gonna carry my gun to the state capitol and demand I can go to Applebee's" crowd, but the larger institutions seeming to proceed forward. Seems like there were a lot of college football announcements this week that are setting the stage for a "regular" season.

Need the money.

You don't become the world's greatest super power by cowering in your home.

I hope to god you're kidding with this bullshit, but I'm pretty sure you aren't based on your other inane posts in this thread.

For the 100th time - the stay-at-home order was never supposed to be a long-term solution. It was to buy time for the government and medical community to get their shit together with regards to testing and tracing. They have failed at every single level in implementing that simply because they do not care, do not take it seriously, and are more worried about saving face and the economy than they are human lives.

It was never about "cowering in your home". It was about flattening the curve to prevent the overwhelming of hospitals, buying time for our inept federal government, and saving lives.

We put forth some half-ass effort at the federal level, hedged about the economy/COVID, and now people are restless due to time spent inside, but we still do not have a coherent plan on how we plan to prevent the spread and monitor the disease. People need money because of COVID, not the shutdown. People aren't going to consistently go to entertainment, restaurants, concerts at a level to sustain those businesses for a long time. We need more stimulus checks, more loans, and more money from the government, but they simply aren't going to do this, and that will force people out of their homes and will kill many more people than had to die.

I refuse to believe you are this dense and hope you are just (inexplicably) trolling to get a rise out of folks who have had to walk you through this like a 5 year old.

I think the absence of a cohesive national plan makes people impatient. Two month lock-down was supposed to keep hospitals from being overrun (that did happen), and buy time for the government to catch up, prepare a plan, and begin executing it (it didn't happen). We can't be in lock-down until a vaccine. If there is no plan, no goal we are shooting for, then why are we doing this (lock-down)? So yeah, people became impatient and said eff it.
