Huge recruiting news this morning. 5* recruit Makur Maker has chosen Howard over UCLA, KY and Memphis. Another top recruit, Mikey Williams (2023) has also stated he is seriously considering going to an HBCU. I wonder if this could become a trend among top guys. If a couple go, some Top 100 guys may follow. It could be very exciting.

It makes a lot of sense for the 1 & Done 5 Stars. I hope more and more follow suit starting with the 2021 & 2022 class. Hopefully Maker has a good season at Howard so the HS guys know that HBCUs are definitely a realistic option for them while still trying to make it to the league.

With some big HS stars, these schools should get more TV appearances and more TV money. That will help the overall athletics departments too.

It will be interesting to see if more P6 schools start looking at HBCUs as legitimate OOC games rather than a just a November cupcake. For example, UVA playing Howard in DC at the Cap One Arena or some other neutral site. That should be a win-win situation. The Hoos get to play in front of their sizeable alumni base in DC and Howard gets exposure and a decent check with no travel expenses.

Agreed. UVA is playing at JMU this year for the first time in 6 years. All the mid-majors may find themselves getting calls from semi-local P6 schools that previously stayed away from them. I doubt we will see HOF Wes in The Joel, however.

That's a good idea too. A Thursday through Sunday set up at the Coliseum could go something like this:

Thursday
7:00 Wake Forest vs UNC-G
9:00 Duke vs High Point

Friday
7:00 NC State vs. NC A&T
9:00 UNC vs. Campbell

Saturday
7:00 Wake Forest vs High Point
9:00 Duke vs UNC-G

Sunday
7:00 NC State vs. Campbell
9:00 UNC vs. NC A&T

Add some women's games on Saturday and Sunday afternoon as well.

Feels kind of tokenizing. I think I’d rather the P5 schools just normalize playing at HBCUs on a regular basis instead of making it a special “message” game.

I think it's more about getting nationally televised games at HBCUs.

that would be a definite advantage to the plan. Just hoping it wouldn't dissuade P5 schools from scheduling HBCUs otherwise.

Oh sure. But I doubt they'll turn down a quality home game or a neutral site event especially if P6 universities aren't able to spend what they used to spend.

For football, it's P5. For basketball most people add the Big East making it a P6.

The Big East has multiple NCAA championships recently and other Final Fours.
