Non-Political Coronavirus Thread

Yeah seems kind of hard to avoid politics during a national crisis that requires but is lacking a national response, but hey stay triggered.

like the threads on the sports board about restarting leagues and people wanting to keep politics off.

I mean, wearing a mask to protect others from a potentially painful and deadly disease is an inherently political act.

It shouldn't be, but alas it was made to be political by the current administration. They are trying to change their tune but it seems to be too little and way, way, way too fucking late.

as proof that everything is hopelessly political, I present data from Florida:

EdsxChDWkAMMEi5

which show deaths by date of death more than doubling over the course of roughly a month

and this tweet in response to it

Nah, it’s inherently political. Muslim women wear masks, bank robbers wear masks, and commie libs wear masks all for they same sinister political reason.

My boss started coming into work recently and noticed our anti-mask secretary did not seem to be wearing a mask. That took up a good part of my afternoon.

my sister-in-law tested (non-politically) positive yesterday -- she's an occupational therapist and was exposed during an in-home intake session with a client

was exposed a week ago Tuesday (11 days ago), found out and took her first test Monday (5 days ago), took a second test Wednesday (3 days ago), and a third brain-swab test Friday (1 day ago) -- found out the results from her neighbor who works at the hospital of the Friday test, so the most recent test was the fastest turnaround

they live around the corner from me, so I see them all the time and good chance I might be positive

got tested yesterday morning (before she found out) but they said 3-5 business days on the test results -- I should quarantine either way, but the lag time on all the above is very frustrating and a big factor in getting a handle on things

she's also pregnant with twins, which makes it a bit more urgent

Eat shit and die, you dumb motherfucker. I would tell you to get the Rona, but you wouldn't die from that; though you might give yourself a heart attack from getting the sniffles I guess. Its idiots like you who can't think for themselves and feed the media paranoia why we are in this situation and why your kids aren't going back to school. And God help them if you are the one educating them instead of actual teachers. I know you won't look at it because it doesn't feed your prejudiced narrative that you are better than everyone else and you will come up with some excuse why science and data only matters when it supports your viewpoint, but here are the actual provisional raw death stats from the CDC week over week. https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/COVID19/index.htm The first column is the week, the second column is all of the Covid-Related deaths, and the third column is all US deaths.

Obviously there is a reporting lag with the most recent week, but, despite the number of cases going up up up, the number of actual deaths has been going down down down week over week. Despite people going back to work, despite the "reopening", despite the alleged Memorial Day, summer, protest, and July 4 death surges, and despite people trying to get some semblance of normal given rampant unemployment and other resulting problems much bigger than this virus. But the WFH Elite don't want to see that, they just want to try to blame everyone who doesn't think like them for the world's problems. You want to blame religious people, you want to blame old people, you want to blame uneducated people, you want to blame poor people, you want to blame young people. You are a prejudiced, piece of shit, bigot, who is no better than those whose statues are being torn down or the dude flying the stars and bars, and you are too hypocritical and dumb to see it. Go fuck yourself.

1000+ American deaths for the fifth day in a row. Seven day rolling average now up consistently since the first week of July. Seven day average for deaths is roughly where we were the first week of June now.

So yeah. For about the 100th time on this thread 2&2 has been proven wrong.

The 7 day rolling average when schools closed was around 15-20 deaths a day.

Even in his shitty chart when one disease that’s transmissible is at certain times 25% of your total deaths you might have a problem but hey he hates his family and can’t dump them off at school and nobody is going to the dentist so rage!

Fuck man. Hope she mends quickly (or never shows symptoms).

2&2, I accept your apology.

Hope she's asymptotic as well. And here I feel torn up about seeing my wife go back to teach (compromised immune system). Be well.

Appreciate the kind thoughts

everybody is feeling pretty fine — seeming like the mild symptom version
