BillBrasky Memorial Political Chat Thread

centerdeac's drunken dickhead posts are quite entertaining

I'm surprised that the Electoral College's origins hasn't gotten more focus in 2020 given the come-to-Jesus moment society has seemed to start towards on a lot of racial and societal topics. The EC ended up as a compromise of sorts even for those, like James Madison, who preferred a popular vote/direct election for the presidency. This was because the South, who had 1/3 of their population as slaves, wanted to leverage this population from the 3/5 compromise for Congressional representation and the indirect means the EC provided. In other words, since slaves couldn't vote but did count as 60% of the population the South was opposed to a popular vote scenario where they had fewer eligible voters than the North.

And they duplicate this strategy by putting prisons in predominant white rural areas, counting prisoners without voting rights as part of the population, and using them to gerrymander districts.

I've talked myself into believing there will be an electoral college tie under the main assumption that Trump will win every state in which Biden is not reliably polling at or above 50% currently. Anyone else concocting any weird scenarios or hypotheticals in their head?

do you think if there was a D president as awful and hated as Trump they would've been an assassination attempt by now?

after a number of days of following the debate, my ruling is as follows:

DG3 posts like a bitch.

feels like SS procedure and US surveillance apparatus make it unlikely we'll see another assassination attempt on a sitting prez

It's also possible that there have been thwarted credible attempts that we just haven't heard about.

According to most Republicans, Obama was as awful as Democrats think Trump is and he was illegitimate because he wasn't born in the US.

It was clumsy, but we had a guy try and mail pipe bombs to Democratic Party leaders and elected officials just two years ago, including Obama. We've already had assassination attempts on Democrats in the current political climate.

So co-presidents. Damn. Do they have to govern together wearing a "get along shirt" or legs ties for a three legged race?

Who has it worse biden-trump or harris-pence?

I’m fascinated to see what happens to the MAGA people that previously identified as republicans but fairly passively but are now all in on Trump if he loses. Do they flock to whoever the next carnival barker is? Do they fall in line with Cotton/Hawley types?

Trump has unquestionably harnessed some energy that wasn’t there before- is that tied to him specifically, can his template be repeated, is the energy just here now, or do those folks just kinda revert back to being whatever they were before?

Hopefully they’re like disgusting political cicadas that surface every couple decades to irritate us with their loud noise and fat clumsy bodies then crawl back underground for a while.

DJT, Jr. is the answer to this question. The 2024 Republican nominee whether the President wins or loses.

Whatever happened to Brad Jaffy? That guy owned Twitter the first few years of Trump's presidency. did Kyle Griffin kill him?
