I used to have a Suburban, but the MDX is our biggest car now. We liked it when we got it, but the Honda Stereo/Tech package is crap compared to my Jeep. The car is fine, but it's pretty dull. We kind of wish we had gone with the Tahoe now, even though it's a lot bigger and cost more. We are still very happy with our decision not to by the Audi Q7.

then cities just aren't for you

Yeah, it ain't for lack of trying.

There were fun things about it, but I mainly just hate being in the midst of thousands of other people at all times. I find it very unsettling.

at least you got to live near Chicago's world class beaches for a bit

Hmm, 60 walkability and 64 for my soonish-to-be address in Asheville. Which seems a little low considering I can get to a lot of great restuarants/breweries/bars in < 1 mile.. and to two of the best parks in the city (on the RIVER) in < 2. I guess groceries is the weak spot, but there is one exactly 1 mile away that's super easy to walk to/all sidewalk, and a kinda weird walk to a nicer option 1.2 miles away. Defs would consider myelf in a walkable pocket of the city though.

Sad I'm p late for the city rankings talk.

I'm kinda with WakeBored (haven't read back very far though), I like visiting big cities, but I find them too exhausting to think about living in full time (unless your'e fucking loaded and can afford sweet amenities/etc). Mid-sized cities are more my speed, especially if they have really good dining and drinking options still and aren't just restaurant chain-villes.

Fucking walk score is learning disabled. It gave me a high rating on walkability to my neighborhood schools. Of course my local school board won't let us walk to those schools because they want us driving around as much as possible. It also game me a low score on grocery store walkability when there's a Harris Teeter one mile from the house that we've been known to walk to.

lol, yeah, dinging me for grocery rating for a similar situation.. very strange, do they only rate it highly if you have like 4-5 grocery store options in walking distance?

And what would be so great about only living 0.3 miles from the grocery store ? Are you going to walk home with 15 bags of groceries ? Or just go daily and pickup what you need for your 2.5 kids, two dogs, and 3,000sf home ?

Of course you're going to drive for the big grocery trip and hope you never have to go back.

When I was still going into grocery stores I did just do multiple shopping trips per week. Got off metro, walked right into grocery store, walked home .25 miles with a few bags. Drove if I needed bulk stuff.

Now I just do as much stuff at farmers market and imperfect foods as I can.

You know what city is on the #incline? Greenville, SC. It’s fascinating to watch it develop. Home prices in the north main area are absurd though and the folks that have lived there for decades are sitting on gold mines.

My brother was in Greenville the last couple years and I enjoyed visiting. Felt like it still has a little ways to go in terms of having a legit bar/restaurant scene based on my limited experience but definitely up and coming.

But to also get away from these crappy cities, you gotta get away from cities that are dominated by cars. New developments and redevelopments gotta start building to encourage walkability and public transit. Byeeee suburbs.

I don’t live in Greenville but have both friends & family there. Each time I’ve been, I’ve been impressed with the bars & restaurants. They’ve got some really good breweries too.
