For my birthday my dad had a guy come and do a super deep clean of our gas grill. Incredible gift, the thing looks practically brand new. This guy had an awesome setup in this little trailer that he pulled behind his Jeep with a heated soaking tray and all sorts of other shit.

did you tip?

that is a very thoughtful gift, i would love for someone to do that for my grill and smoker, an activity that takes me hours to do, multiple times per year

I briefly considered it but did not. He was a solo operation and it was not cheap so I feel like that was the right move.

Don't think ya wanna tempt fate with the dude fixing your combustible appliances

An article requiring a subscription to read about the end of people, like Palma, luxuries being subsidized posted for free so that he can read it.

someone make a meme where the top half is me laughing at someone who has a cicada on them freaking out about it and the bottom half is me, freaking out when a cicada lands on me

Sometimes I feel like Palma is just a deep fake parody perpetrated by Brasky to eventually turn me into a communist.

I talked to one of those companies about cleaning and working on my grill. Once I told him about my grill he basically told me it would be cheaper to buy a new one than to have them come do their service. And my grill is at least a pretty decent one. So they ain't cheap.

I've never used a third-party delivery service that I know of. I've never seen the value - I'd rather pick up sometihng on my way home. Maybe my time just isn't worth that much.

you have never ordered a pizza? what about Amazon?

i don't tip plumbers or electricians or any yard people who are clearly self-employed. Set your rates.

If you are an employee of AT&T or DirecTV or something, I might tip if you do a good job.

I tip 30% at restaurants now; was 20% or so in the before times.

I tip pizza guy $10 every time because i was once a pizza delivery guy. (I also tip at Baskin Robbins for the same reason. 34 years ago. Damn.)

Yup, it is definitely an investment. My parents got us our grill for our wedding gift and it was >$2k so certainly worth taking care of really well.

what are things you spend more money on the maintenance than the purchase itself

I'll end up spending more money on maintaining my bike than I spent to buy it

I'll just post the whole thing and suffer whatever consequences that brings with it.

I do not subscribe to the NYT. Article was sent to me by a client this morning.

I have it on good authority that several agencies are indeed monitoring these here ogboards. sorry man. was nice knowing you...
