Less altruistic than the US government?

I'm for doing something that's not going to be a shitshow and will win votes in Miami. No idea what that is.

my first thought would be to not go along with whatever Marco Rubio and Madison Cawthorn are tweeting about

And just further enable an oppressive government regime? No thanks.

We need to get off our asses and support the movement via whatever means necessary before someone with less altruistic intentions props up that regime any further.

That strategy has served us so well in Central America! We have a whole region of stable, democratic, corruption free nations we’ve helped from Guatemala to Nicaragua to DR! Let’s turn back the clock, dig up the Dulles brothers and get in there!

feels like a lot of Tunnels conversation that don't operate with that in mind though -- perhaps learning it is one thing and internalizing it another?

who thinks cuba is a utopia?

I hear they have a place where you can indefinitely detain people you label as terrorists, torture them, and agree to never extradite them at the behest of the nation with the largest prison population in the world. Frankly, it sounds terrible.

Curious to hear other's thoughts on the child tax credits starting today.

The actual financial addition is $1000 or $1600 per child for the year depending on their age. That amount is added to the existing $2k credit per child, chopped in half and distributed in 6 installments between today and December. The other half will be claimed during regular tax filing season.

Democrats are claiming the credits will lift 137,000 NC children out of poverty. The poverty line in NC for a family of 4 is below $30k, so another $2-3k isn't nothing, but is it life changing?

What's not getting much attention - everyone getting these credits is essentially decreasing their rebate/increasing their payment in April (family of 4 now gets $3000/$3600 instead of $4000 credit). I suspect people who need the money now the most are not likely to plan for the unexpected reduction of cash flow come April.

you're confused how 3k for a family that makes less than 30k could be life changing?

The $3000 doesn’t make a big difference but not getting $400 in April will make a big difference?

Confusing post.

Looks like the right wing plot to kidnap Whitmer was..... Bullshit. At least claims the radical right wing Jacobin and recent court findings that at least 12 FBI informants were involved.

i skimmed through it but it is just an opinion piece with no evidence and a key part seems to be from the defense attorney, with the favorite Republican defense..."it's just a bunch of drunk idiots playing make believe".

BS meter is about the same as when sailor post anything...off the chart!

edited to state my reference to sailor and BS meter...look above
