2021 Wake Forest Football Season

State's defense is going to be a handful. I don't think their offense is as good as Louisville or Virginia, but their defense is much better. If our offense is working like normal and we make Leary beat us with his arm, we win.

I don't understand the NCSU love from the national media. Sure they beat Clemson, but I guess nobody watched the game in Starkville last month. I went to that game while visiting some military friends in the area, and State played like shit. They wouldn't have beat a Sun Belt team that night. It's just a matter of time before they get exposed like that again. I hope it's us that does it.

almost (should've?) lost to LA Tech

Each game is going to be close.

Except Duke. And maybe BC.

Not great that Army hung tough on the road, Clemson seems perfectly content not letting their opponents score, UNC won and State destroyed BC.

But...we can take all of them.

I think I'll go with you. I checked Miss. State's season and it didn't look particularly impressive, other than their thrashing of NCSU.

State has been a great defense. But they have not faced anything close to a great offense yet.

They still have to deal with @WF, Louisville and UNC. They have not proven they can win a shootout, all these matchups should force them to score points unless you believe their defense is elite.

@FSU could be a tougher game than it seemed a few weeks ago as well.

If we beat State, we are winning the Atlantic.

Army v. Power V conference opponents since 2018:

2018: @Oklahoma 28 Army 21 (OT) -- OU's QB was Kyler Murray; OU also had Cee Dee Lamb
2018 Army 70 Houston 14 (Bowl Game: Houston isn't a Power V team, but will be in a couple of years)
2019: @Michigan 24 Army 21 (OT) -- (Current Deac Christian Turner had 3 carries for 20 yards)
2020: @ Cincinnati 24 Army 10 -- Game was 17-10 late in the 4th quarter when Desmond Ridder threw a 60 yard TD
2020: West Virginia 24 Army 21 (Bowl game: WV scored a TD with 3 minutes left to take WV's first lead of the 2nd half)
2021: @Wisconsin 20 Army 14

Things to note: In 2018, OU played in the football playoffs that year and Murray won the Heisman that season. In 2019, Michigan was #7 when Army played in the Big House. In 2020, Cincy was ranked #14 last year when it played Army. None of those teams played at West Point. Despite playing against more talented and high powered offenses, Army didn't give up more than 24 points at the end of regulation to any of those opponents. Said it when the year started, hate the scheduling of Army ever. Hate scheduling them in the middle of the ACC season more. No win proposition.

WF is the first Power V team to play at Army since Duke played there in 2017 (Duke lost that game 21-16). WF is the first ranked team to play at Army since 2013. Army will be jacked for this game, while WF is more focused on winning an ACC title than beating Army.

The good news: WF is off a bye, and Army's pass defense is suspect. That said. Would be thrilled with a 17-16 win and to get the hell out of West Point. Also, there is no other OOC opponent that WF has currently scheduled more often going forward than Army as WF plays Army in 2022, 2024, 2025 and 2026. WTF? OOC games are so precious. You only get 4 a year, and WF is stuck playing Army every year for 5 of the next 6 seasons.

We had a discussion about the Army series before the season. Some people said the NYC Deacs have a lot of pull in keeping that series going. I guess it makes sense, but they could drive a few hours more to Cuse every other year instead.

Also important to remember Clawson doesn't have a good record coming off of a bye week.

This has to be a RW special.

Want to match up against these kinds of schools at the mid-to-lower tier in Power 5: Baylor, Indiana, Illinois, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ole Miss, Purdue, Rutgers, South Carolina, TCU, Vanderbilt, West Virginia... and so on.

No service academies. Meh on Notre Dame. Sprinkle in schools like Charlotte, ODU, ECU, Rice, W&M, etc as needed to fill out schedule. Plus 1 FCS opponent a year.

Ridiculous we have to schedule UNC OOC to get a consistent game with them, but would continue that if that allows us to keep that rivalry alive every season. The oldest in CFB.

It’s past time to redo the ACC divisions to put all the Big 4 in one division.

It would be really easy if we're adding two of WVU, Cincinnati, and ND. Then you can have an 8 team North and an 8 team South: the 4 NC schools, Clemson, GT, the two FL schools. It also makes way more sense considering travel expenses in the non-revenue sports.

Pretty near perfect. Will not happen because it is- or something like it- pretty near perfect. I am guessing Wake is lobbying for Army to be one of those since want play them every year.

You might be right.

Mike Buddie is the ADat Army. He basically hired Clawson before he left Wake for Furman.

Yeah. Doesn’t mean we owe him a series.

Just do away with the divisions and designate three teams each team plays ever year. Full rotation of opponents otherwise and thus you cycle through the full conference opposition once every two years.

Cal, USC, Stanford and UCLA made sure they played once a year in the Pac-12's current setup, and they're much further apart than the NC schools are. Absolutely nuts Duke and State only play once every six years

Good setup. GaTech might quibble, as that gives them the purported top 3 of the conference every year.

Well if we’ve learned anything, it’s that guessing the top 3 is futile.
