I’ll help explain - Transgender and non-binary people deserve dignity in the work place and on social media, and inorder to help facilitate that dignity, they tell their peers their preferred pro-nouns so that people unfamiliar with them don’t have to awkwardly guess which pronouns to use.

The rest of us cisgender presenting people put our pronouns in our bios to express solidarity with those transgender and non-binary people. We just want to help normalize their lives. It’s a simple, free, and effortless way to express a tiny shred of compassion for a vulnerable population.

Can you help explain why you think that’s dumb?

This might be too nuanced a concept for you, but you don’t have to agree with someone’s opinion to respect the sincerity of their belief. I’m not a Christian, but I don’t roll my fucking eyes every time I see someone wearing a cross. Don’t be so cynical.

You are so close to understanding what “solidarity” means. Do you believe that trans and non-binary people, who might already feel very self conscious, want your attention? Do you think they feel safe “sticking out” in a work place? What little things might you do to help them feel more normal and less conspicuous?

I’m not accusing Catamount of *doing* anything, he just said that having pronouns in bio was dumb, so I thought he might not understand exactly why people do that
