Banning Critical Race Theory

Rafi, keep posting like that and he’s going to accuse you of saying words are racist.

What?? The tweet posted above clearly states "Critical Race Theory" is a component of the Black Studies curriculum.

Nobody is arguing that students shouldn't be learning about other components listed including African history, American Enslavement, etc.

This is a transparent and laughable attempt by the left to claim anyone against teaching CRT to K-12 students is also against teaching the important historical items listed above simply because they can't justify CRT as a stand alone on its own merits.

It's the same bullshit as stating anyone who dares to criticize Antifa looting and burning down buildings must be a fascist by default.

Lolz. "Nobody is arguing that students shouldn't be learning about other components listed including African history, American Enslavement, etc." - except for all of the "parent groups" (some funded by outside right-wing sources) and GOP politicians and school board members around the country - some examples have been posted on this very thread - trying to ban books on Ruby Bridges and MLK and anything else they fear might make white kids feel bad. It's a bullshit argument - of course they're trying to limit what can be taught in the curriculum and what teachers can say and teach about racism and race in their classrooms. You seem to have missed Rufo's tweet - also posted on this very thread - in which he flatly states that his goal is to basically lump everything conservatives don't want taught in classrooms into the dreaded "CRT" category so it can be banned.

What's bullshit, Angus, is constantly looking at Rufo's tweets and seeing him claim that things are CRT when it almost invariably turns out to be recommended books, teacher workshops, etc. and not actual examples of teachers using CRT in the classroom. Contrary to your claims neither Rufo nor any other conservative has shown that this is being taught on a widespread scale nearly anywhere - it's a lot of misdirection, exaggeration, and cherry-picking of sources. How, exactly, is CRT being taught in the curriculum along with all of those other things included in that statement he tweeted? Does Rufo have any idea - or do you? Rufo makes it sound as if CRT is virtually the only thing being taught in Seattle schools, but it is merely one proposed feature in a very long list of proposed African-American studies. Keep flailing, Angus, maybe you and Rufo will eventually find more than a handful of teacher workshops where CRT is mentioned or some recommended CRT books for teachers to read or mentions of CRT along with about a dozen other educational topics to point and yell at.

*whispers* our teachers should be learning CRT and using it to inform how they teach their students

Going to step out on a limb here and assume it’s the liberal activist language of these texts that bothers Angus And JH. Social justice history is just fine as long as we keep it in the past, and don’t give it any modern cultural context that would require white children to use critical thinking skills and recognize their place within a *currently* unjust, inequitable society. They are just fine with children learning about “history” as long as the school system doesn’t tell them anything that might counter the conservative bootstraps colorblind indoctrination they receive at home.

I think you can teach the history of America without dividing a classroom of eight year olds into oppressors and oppressed.

This almost seems like a discussion point in earnest, so I'll address it.

8yo is not too early for children to learn that different people are treated and have been treated differently by race. Because, I'll guarantee the minority kids already know it.

It's also not too early to learn that you don't get far in life with an unhealthy preoccupation with blaming your circumstances on your oppressors.

Is that what you think teaching race is? Sheesh.

I like that it’s framed in the context of black children learning about how they are oppressed where in reality they learn pretty early on that they are oppressed instead of the correct context of teaching white children that black people are oppressed, here is why, maybe grow up and help to put an end to it.

My 9 yo has a better understanding of racism and the long term impact on individuals, their families, and society than... a few here. He's seen his best buddy treated differently because... well, reasons...

If you participate in a discussion of institutional racism and think you’re an oppressor, then yeah you’re probably an oppressor.

It’s just like if you hear someone describing an asshole and respond, “Stop talking about me!”

Or if someone says a group of people are either racist sexist homophobic xenophobes or they have legitimate gripes with government and you say, “She called us racist sexist homophobic xenophobes!”

jhmd and others want classrooms and schools in which white children are free to harass BIPOC children while teachers and principals are scared to call them out on it or teach them otherwise.

Similarly, if you have to tell me how smart you are (attractive, kind, etc) you probably aren't.

For some reason, undergraduates can't repay their educational loans. Confounding.

Damn, that is a load of BS. It is also unhealthy to ignore the failures and vile actions of the past (and present) and not acknowledge that it exists. Hell, people are still being oppressed...it didn't just go away as Republicans want to think.

Yeah. That dumbass earnestly believes that a bunch of enslavers created a country in which anyone could succeed. If you’re not part of the ruling group, it’s your fault if you don’t succeed.

Imagine being that fucking stupid.

Where does your arrogance come from?
