MBB Game 20: UNC-Ch - Saturday 8 pm - ACCN

Some of y’all might enjoy watching H Davis postgame press conference…

I’ll just post the link without embedding.

Just listened to presser. I thought HD was very complimentary, in a way. It's crazy that we are in year two of a rebuild and in the post-game presser the head coach of UNC is saying (I'm paraphrasing), "At the end of the day, Manman, Jake, and Davien were the best players on the floor and we couldn't match their talent. I played in the NBA and no matter how much I prepped and how good my fundamentals were, MJ and Kobe were going to out play me. Now I'm not saying these guys are MJ or Kobe, but that's basically what happened out there. Wake is the far more talented team."

This speaks to what a fucking fantastic job Forbes is doing. We're in year two and this is the only answer the HC of UNC can give after the literal crime against humanity we inflicted on them on the floor. Feels good man.

I'd also expect to see a lot of roster turnover at UNC. We'll see what that ultimately means.

Deacs haven't played this well in at least 20 years. Pretty Wild.

If that PC was not HD trying to motivate his players then he is already toast. Roy must have forgotten to give him the Nuke LaLoosh talk about using sports cliches for PCs and just move on.

Apparently Forbes reads scouting reports. He knew Bacot would be a handful down low. So he had Matthew Marsh ready to contribute valuable minutes after Walton and Sy each got 2 fouls. It's good coaching that when Wake's two primary bigs got in foul trouble, Wake put in a guy who was bigger yet, and ready to play.

I doubt Forbes was planning to play Marsh but Marsh was prepared to play. That’s good coaching.

He said as much in his presser. Someone asked whether the plan all along was to play Marsh tonight or if it was solely out of necessity. Forbes basically said that it was a little of both; that the staff was very aware of his readiness and what he's capable of atm and that a situation arose where his number was called and they knew he was up to it.

Dallas was getting pushed around by Bacote. Marsh is a very large dude, and did what he was supposed to do, keep him off of the boards. Dallas is a shot blocker and like all of them they need room. The Heels played over the back all night long.

Actually, Forbes sort of addressed that in his PC. In response to a question if playing Marsh was planned or in response to the foul situation, he said he got the freshmen together after a terrible practice and got on them and they practiced better. Said he knew Marsh was playable, so a combination of situation and planning to play him.

According to the WFU roster, Marsh is only 20 pounds bigger than Walton. The difference in being able to box out Bacot seemed like a lot more than that.

This part of the season has to be hard for freshmen, particularly those who don't see game minutes. Getting beat up in practice. Doing something to emulate an opponent that has them out of comfort zone. And now "Work Forest" academic requirements are really taking a chunk out of their lives. Easy to see that they needed a little motivational reminder.

I don't read the holes comments on IC very often (maybe once a year) but its a fun read this morning. They are already speculating on whether Huebert lasts 3 seasons or not. My favorite though was reading that Anthony Harris may transfer to a school where he doesn't have to worry about tough academics...LOL..I still can't get over that one.

Absolutely. It really helps reinforce the idea that Marsh is the guy after Walton and that Marsh's work is paying off.

I swear that’s Bacot in the back right

I doubt, Forbes had a plan to suddenly play Marsh last night. Walton and Sy with 2 fouls forced his hand.

If people watch the presser he said he was upset with the freshman 48 hrs ago and they were not practicing well. Pulled them aside and told them the future is now, not next year and they needed to be ready now.

It just happened that we needed Marsh last night.
