Clemson @ WFU - Saturday 9/24 - 12 Noon ABC

I keep seeing successful blitz after successful blitz across all channels. Makes me sad.

What are you talking about? He said Wake were the Atlantic champs last year for a reason and how good we were. He called Clawson a good man and a "heck of a football coach." The closest thing I can see is that he stated that their corners were freshmen without a ton of experience in response to a question about the injuries of their starters. That's a fact. Can you give me one piece where he disrespected the team or "showed his ass?"

I've been a lurker for years but joined to respond to this chain. This is absolutely despicable. One of the most disgusting things I've ever seen someone post. awakegirl, maybe you're just a complete idiot and don't follow football, but I do. Bryan Bresee's 15 year old sister was honored at the last Clemson game because she's had an 18-month battle with brain cancer. She died earlier this week and half the Clemson team went up to Maryland to attend the funeral with the family, and then the family came down to the game today to be together. ABC was zooming in on Bresee's dad when he made big plays given that.

It's fine to not like Clemson. It's a rivalry (we've played them the third most of any team), and this was one of the hardest losses to them in memory (Getting blown out sucks, which the last 10 games have been, but being this close hits harder). But there are things more important than sports, and your post is absolutely disgusting.
I think you missed the point of my post. The dad was screaming and talking trash to our family section. If it was anyone else, I would have said something about him, which is why I said, he buried his daughter this week so I’m trying not to be a dick and didn’t comment on him trash talking our kids’ families after a devastating loss. Then I said generally- fuck Clemson fans, because on the whole I find them to be awful. The dad certainly gets a pass today after what they’ve been through and that’s what I meant when I said I wasn’t going to be a dick about him. If that wasn’t clear, I genuinely apologize. I certainly agree that there are a lot of things more important than sports and I feel terrible for anyone who loses a child. Again, I wasn’t trash talking him in my post. I agree that it would be pretty awful if I was talking shit about him
and I’m sorry that my message was lost in translation.

The defense did not play well. Clemson's 51 points, 559 yards of offense and 16 of 23 third down conversions tell the story. Any comment or explanation mitigating that disaster is a bullshit excuse. That is why the Deacons lost.

Despite that fact, the Deacon offense produced enough points to come back from a 14 point deficit and enter the 4th quarter with a seven point lead.

The first Deacon possession in the fourth quarter consisted of 5 rushing attempts (18 yards) and one pass attempt (completed for 46 yards). The result was a field goal. The second possession came with 4 minutes remaining in the game and the score tied. It consisted of six rushing attempts ( 25 yards) and two passing attempts ( sack -4 yards and completion for 12 yards). The result was a punt with 39 seconds remaining.

I have no problem with the punt. It ensured the Deacs would not lose. The decision to run the football 11 times (43 yards) and pass the ball three times (net 58 yards) in the 4th quarter was idiocy. The passing attack put the Deacs in a position to win. Clawson's decision to focus on the clock rather than score diminished the offensive momentum and shut down the offense. A terrible decision by the coaching staff.
This was almost entirely against soft zone D daring us to pass. The one on one matchups we exploited to perfection were no more. Now I agree the lack of zone-busting short/mid range passing attacks was a bit frustrating, particularly on the last series of regulation and in OT.

All 6 of Sam’s TDs came against the blitz so you missed at least 6 unsuccessful ones.
Clemson’s base Bear defense today would be classified as a blitz. We shredded it. I’m almost positive our blitz was far more effective against Clemson than our base rush of 3 or 4. Too lazy to go try to find stats but would love to see them.

Every Clemson fan I know have been super respectful of our program and yeah they're passionate but never out of line. I can think of at least ten different schools with worse fans than Clemson.

That is not when they were doing it. The comment was made when Bresee batted down a pass on second down earlier. But yeah, it is.
I was responding to someone asking who he was when he was busy acting like that all game. And again, I agree, he gets a pass. The rest of their fans are a bunch of assholes on the whole though and I’m not going to apologize for saying fuck their fanbase generally.

Goodwin adjusted to zone and dared Wake to run

That’s good for you, but I’ve heard a ton of little brother and we should never and will never lose to them shit talk. I don’t know why people care if others don’t like a rival fanbase, especially right after a heartbreaking loss.

the play I keep coming back to is last drive in regulation, the last first down where Sam catches them sending numbers pre-snap and still hands it off for a loss and we punt three downs later

bad decision — the run did exactly what is was supposed to do to get us that point but you gotta pull and throw that

Six men in the box, Whiteheart was in to block. We had a hat-on-a-hat, but #13 blew past Nash and Maginn didn't make it to the second level to get #54. The next-nearest defender is 6 yards back from the LOS when contact is made. Right read, terrible blocking.

That is exactly what I was screaming too. That would have gotten the 1st down IMO and possibly made a trip down field to win the game in regulation.

That was the one that hurt.

I'm not a big fan of things like poll rankings and recruiting stars.....but in 2023 we have a committment from a 4 star guy who's in the top 5 rated players ALL TIME for Wake Forest. Clawson's 1st 4 star guy in 9 yrs. Go back and look at Clemson's recruiting over the last 9 years. They probably haven't had 20 guys ranked BELOW a 4 star. They've had more NFL players in the last 5 years than we've had in the last 20. Their players are generally bigger, stronger and faster than our guys. That still matters. But not as much as it used to, because Clawson has convinced and coached our guys that they belong on the field with Clemson, State, FSU, UNC, Miami, VT and basically all the ACC teams that generally out recruit us. Back in 2008 Clemson wasn't nearly as talented as they've been the last 8-10 years. When we beat them it was major, FOR US, not for them. Their fans knew they weren't good and so did the country. Today was the first time in my 49 years as a Deac that we actually played like we knew we could win, even should win against a strong top ten team. That's a monumental change for us. Clemson had to play their best game to sneak out in 2 OT's. We may never out recruit them or any other top 25 team. But we aren't afraid to play anybody. I honestly didn't expect us to hang with them for all those reasons. I was so wrong. Hats off to our Deacs. They were probably the best team Clemson will play during the regular season, and it's no fluke.. We were good enough to win, and Clemson just made a couple great plays to snatch the victory. I'm proud. We're really damn good. Keep it going Deacs !

Holy shit. Thanks for making my night even worse.

That's fair. Rivalries should be heated. The little brother talk happens in every rivalry. You have to win to change the narrative. We haven't beaten Clemson since Dabo became head coach and are 6-40 against them since 1977 (and half of those 40 losses came by 3 scores or more).

Holy shit. Thanks for making my night even worse.

That’s what I was saying - it wasn’t that first down run that killed that drive, it was Sam looking off the easy pass to wide open Ellison in the flat and then taking the sack. I saw him look at Ellison and then keep scanning left

I'm now depressed. I'm old with two bad knees and I could have caught that one.
