My wife made breakfast for dinner last night and for some reason decided to cook real bacon and since my system hasn't had pork fat in ages I'm in the same boat as DDD right now.

my wife reeeeeeally likes miami

key west is an option too, but much more expensive accommodations
The Keys are great but don’t go in expecting a typical beach vacation if you’ve never been. They’re best experienced with a boat. We used to rent a house on a lower key every summer and trailer one down.

Yeah the beaches are kinda non-existent and you have to snorkel way out there to get sand.

If you can get to Dry Tortugas though, that is an awesome trip.

Yeah that’s a cool place. Especially if you camp.

The Tampa Bay area has taken Ian much more seriously than past hurricanes. Basically anyone near water has been forced to evacuate due to storm surge. Their power has been or will be turned off. Schools announced over the weekend they were closed for the week. It’s no joke.

So did you come back to NC ? Coincidental that the ECU game down there was rescheduled.

My dumb father lives in North Fort Myers and he decided not to do anything (aside from cancel his tee time).

On the other hand, my mom in Sarasota and my sister in Port Charlotte had the good sense to get in the car and head north earlier in the week.

My sister is in Sarasota and isn't coming home despite the entire family attempting to make her feel guilty about it.

These things always become the ultimate "I told you so" moments. Either it just rains a bunch and she doesn't have power for one night and it's no big deal and she tells everybody "I told you so !". Or something awful happens and everybody is mad at her and is dying to say "I told you so !" but can't really because everything is a big mess.

Pumpkin things I like:

Foothills (formerly Cottonwood) pumpkin beer

I get one PSL per year (and one holiday flavored drink in Dec)

Pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving

We make Pillsbury pumpkin bread every thanksgiving morning

Will eat pumpkin ice cream.

But most of the above are about the spice vs the actual gourd. One time we went to Trader Joe’s and they were sampling every pumpkin product they carry, which is a lot. Many unnecessary like hummus, cheese, and salsa.
They had a salted maple ice cream at Trader Joe’s this weekend that I was intrigued by. May have to grab some of that.

Pumking remains my favorite pumpkin beer.

I haven't really spent a lot of time in Miami except for in South Beach, which I don't consider kid friendly.

The great thing about having kids the age of Townie's is that you can book a beach vacation in May before Memorial Day, or in September before Labor Day, and not have to deal with big crowds and spend a lot less on lodging.

Also, 7.5-hour drive from DC to the Charleston beaches.

No chance you survived that cruise in April without eating a good amount of bacon.

we did 2 weeks in paris and london with the kid, feel like we can sorta take him anywhere

A good friend just purchased a really expensive condo in New Smyrna Beach. He's going to ride the storm out. I told him he's an idiot, but he is a determined idiot.

I had to ride out a hurricane in Ocean City Md years ago - it wasn't any fun. The constant roar of the wind might have been the worst part. Cars that were exposed near the beach had one side of paint completely sandblasted off.
