Hartman, Perry and other NFL Draft Prospects

I think Sam will really enjoy his season on the practice squad somewhere, before he has a very successful career on the ACC Network (communications major with a journalism minor). There are just too many games were he unraveled against good defenses for an NFL team to use a pick on him. After 5 years, teams are going to question how much more upside there is. He has shown toughness and good football intelligence, which combined with his numbers he will get him a shot somewhere, but after that, I dont know.
I think this is probably the correct take, and it's a good way to lose money betting against the kid. There's plenty of reasons he shouldn't be successful, but he's just a competitor. Elite junk baller.

He did come out and say it and I’m pretty sure Clawson has repeated it.

he did say it but that was pre injury and the start of the season. things could change, but who knows.

when we lose in the first playoff game, sam will be ready to come back and give it one more try

Don't sleep on DeVonte Gordon. 6-6 305 former basketball player, very agile for his size. Just scratching the surface. Also, the two Richmond transfers Kobie Turner and Malik Mustapha have a great chance to play on Sundays as does CB Caelen Carson -- teams don't even like to throw his way.

With that said, after Luke Masterson made an NFL roster this year, which no WF fan would've ever predicted (if anyone had predicted that last year, he/she would've been mocked here; people here claimed Luke Masterson was the reason why our defense struggled over the last few years; he's now making $705K this year playing in Las Vegas) those claiming to know what translates to the next level and what does not are probably fooling themselves.
Yeah- some people were very high on Roberson's pro prospects. ;)

I'm happy whenever Wake guys get shots at the pros. But I tend to think that it is a testament to the coaching staff that they are able to get All-ACC performances and crazy stats from guys who a) weren't that highly regarded coming out of H.S.; and b) don't end up having great pro prospects. If you are an above average college WR, our offense is going to give you the opportunity to make plays down the field with light/distracted coverage. If you are a QB that can master the reads, you are going to have the chance to throw a lot of deep passes. Those advantages, which are almost entirely a function of the coaching staff and its scheme, help guys put up numbers far above what they might get in more traditional offenses. Which is great! But being an NFL draft pick/player ultimately boils down, more often than not, to being one of the elite athletes in the world. And most of our guys, especially at the skill positions, are not world-class athletes.

Roberson is getting an NFL paycheck this week: Roberson on the Steelers practice squad

FWIW, Roberson injured his knee at the worst possible time for his NFL prospects. That said, agree that it's super-hard to make an NFL roster at WR.

Interesting that fans have thought so highly of our receivers and so lowly of our defense, but we seem to be putting just as many or more defensive players than receivers in the NFL

Sure, but Wake has put disproportionately more WRs in the NFL than any other position by far. Six Wake receivers had 79 or more receptions for Wake and finished their careers since 2018. All six have at least made practice squads. Not only that, they were all on the 2018 roster and so was AT Perry. I doubt any Wake team has had five future NFL players at one position and six is very likely (obviously Hinton was a QB in 2018).

Bachman (82)
Dortch (142)
Hinton (79)
Washington (110)
Surratt (107)
Roberson (146)

Bachman should be on the Giants roster.

The WR corps is so good that whoever gets the ball is the best receiver. It's hard to single out one guy. The top 5 WRs all have at least 10 catches for 150 yards. Three have 100 yard games* and we wouldn't be shocked if Greene and/or Morin have 100 yards on Saturday.

*Perry (5/142/1 vs. Vandy), Williams (5/129 vs. Liberty), Banks (6/141/2).

Perry and Banks (!) get mentioned in this article about NFL Draft prospects

Williams is so fun to watch. He finishes all his opportunities well by breaking tackles and maximizing YAC but also has surprisingly good ball skills to make catches in traffic. Unbelievable how well we’ve recruited WRs for the different ways Clawson likes to use them.

This post aged remarkably well. Between his awesome effort to get the early first down where he caught it in front of the sticks and later him Mossing that poor FSU fuck. Key officially my favorite player.

If they still do it, has to be a Moss this week.

Ke’shawn is like our version of DJ Moore.

Great comp. Would like to see us go to him earlier, but hard to argue against the RBs eating and Sam looking towards Donovan, @, and Banks
