It’s just really strange to bring it up all unless you are going to unequivocally condemn the actions of the attacker and the type of political rhetoric that leads to political violence like this.

I take anti-Semitism seriously. I just didn’t thinking hyping up a deleted tweet helps reduce the spread of anti-Semitism. Instead it helps spread the message through mainstream media.

With that response, I’m fine keeping that discussion on the Political Chat thread instead of rehashing it on other threads.

I stand by my take. I don’t stand by your misinterpretation of my take and trying to relate it to other issues and different threads. But I’m also not going to let you bully me either.

Bullying is a bit dramatic, no? And I'm hardly the only person who has "misinterpreted" your take.

The tweet that Barca posted was criticizing the NYT for not putting a story of a QAnon-fueled assassination attempt above the fold in a newspaper. That's the upshot of your take. Don't cover racist violence, whether verbal or physical, because it'll only encourage it. If you can't handle that, then you might want to re-think the take.

That said, there's been plenty of physical anti-Semitic violence over the last 7 years, which is why I take so much exception to your original take. I mean, hell, the new Rabbi in Winston-Salem is from Colleyville, TX.
 
You brought me up unprovoked on a different thread about a different topic. Nobody else has joined you in this misinterpretation. You’re specifically saying that me saying “don’t hype up a deleted tweet” is the same as “don’t cover anti-Semitic violence” even though one of my main points is the distinction between speech and action. Yes, there has been plenty of anti-Semitic violence over the past several years. So you have plenty of evidence that I have not said media shouldn’t cover anti-Semitic violence.

You don’t have to pretend I said things I didn’t say. You can quote them and we can have reasonable discourse about this. We can even do it privately if you like. You can PM me, email me, text me, call me, hit me up on Zoom, whatever. But you’re choosing to make it a public spectacle within this forum.

There’s a nexus between hate speech and racist violence. Anybody living in the United States, let alone the US during the last 7 years should know that. I’d recommend checking out the new Holocaust doc bc I think it’s illuminating in how damaging the speech-politics-action nexus is in regards to fascists embracing anti-Semitic and racist speech to normalize and legitimize anti-Semitic and racist violence.

You can also reach out, you know. If I inspired this kind of reaction from you, for example, then I’d certainly at least be curious about why something that I believe is right is being “misinterpreted” but somebody I’m usually on the same page with.

I’ll leave it here, but I really do find this whole conversation extremely dispiriting. The only place I really encounter folks trying to downplay anti-semitic speech is on OGBoards and idk what that means. There are also a lot of folks on here who don’t, but it always gives me pause.
