Official 2022 College Football Thread: Georgia is Back to Back Champions !!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!

And, only one CFP participant has ever been within 1,000 miles of Pasadena. That was Oregon (850 miles), in 2015 -- the first year of the CFP.

I thought the plan under the 12 team playoff was to play the games on campus sites until the Semis. Perhaps that is wrong, but if that is correct, that limits the CFP to three neutral site games per playoff. No chance that the Rose Bowl or any Bowl gets a seat at the table every year. A 12 team CFB playoff would be an enormous event, much bigger than the Final 4. Among other things, it's massive local economy boosts for the host site/city. The people that run the CFP have to be smart enough to know that they have all of the leverage here. If the Rose Bowl is balking, there are an endless number of venues that would give anything to take its place in a 3 year rotation.

There has been a little bit of a stumbling block about expanding into the existing bowls for the quarterfinal games and only playing the first round games on campus. Of course that would mean that the top four teams wouldn't get a campus game and would have to travel to a neutral site that might actually benefit their opponent. I just don't see how this gets accomplished by 2024 the way things are going. And the Rose Bowl can basically unilaterally fuck this up for everybody for a couple of years. These days, the Rose Bowl derives its power from the B1G, and to a much lesser degree, the PAC-12, which is about to fall apart.

But, but, but tOSU's schedule is so much worse than everyone's! Fraud!

ETA, the SEC is good, all other conferences are meh to bad.

tOSU and Michigan will both get a bump in this metric when they play each other.

Oregon plays two straight ranked opponents coming up, and closes with Oregon State which is currently 6-3.

Woah woah woah... Let's not say something we're gonna regret here.
nah, compare the intro to the game and all this talk about sunset and the grandaddy of them all, intertwined with black and white footage of Michigan players, compared to the hushed reverence for the Masters. all the same.

Yeah. I don't see how the Rose Bowl can argue about its place in the CFP without knowing if there will be a Pac-12.

Sofi could easily be a CFP Championship location and push out the Rose Bowl anyway. Seems like the Rose Bowl should have stepped in when the Big Ten started raiding the Pac-12.

So I really didn't open up about this because I know you guys don't care, but last Friday afternoon in Athens I needed to log in and do a little work. So I found table and char in a hallway and login and get started. Turns out I was sitting next to the conference room where the SEC Network was working on their weekend coverage. Had brief conversations with Paul Finebaum and Roman Harper. Saw Rodgers, Tebow, Rutledge, and McGee in the conference room.

Did you ask Kirk why he hates Wake?

Can you imagine anyone being exciting seeing Dalen Cuff, EJ Manuel, Mark Packer, that guy with the mohawk, and Eric MacLain in a conference room ?

This is good stuff. For reference, Paul announced the beginning of the end for Alabama earlier this week.
