Official US Soccer / World Cup '26 Thread (USA vs. Mexico 3/24 in Dallas)

people have been clamoring about Weah/Aaronson/Pulisic/Reyna at the 9 for like two years

would be crazy if the first time it plays out is in the world freaking cup

whatever the starting lineup, lean into the relative depth of the forwards and play aggressive imo

you are spot on but Berhalter isn't going to a 4-2-3-1, I don't think
Adams is going to play a traditional 6 in a 4-3-3. And, in my opinion, Reyna has to be on the pitch, so the decision then becomes does he play at RW or ST? And if ST, do we give him the freedom to drop deep and hopefully drag a CB out of position for our wingers to exploit? Or a McKennie/Musah run from deep?
We have the talent to really cause sides problems if the reins came off a little bit...
If Musah is benched I will turn off my TV. Him and Adams are playing on a level so high above our other players it would be treason to bench him.

Love McKennie but he is out of form. He is the obvious drop out of the MMA midfield.

I hear you, but I tend to be of the opinion that you can throw club form out of the window when talking an international tournament.
Are McKennie and Musah 2 of our best players? If yes then play them both. Don't over-complicate things.

Now if one stinks it up vs Wales then you can re-calibrate for the England match.

we actually have talented players gifted with technical abilities that rival top nations now... so why the fuck would we play a guy that works really hard but cant even settle a 25 yard pass? he's shite as a footballer.

I love the idea of Reyna as a false 9 and pushing our wingers (Puli and Weah) up higher to suck in the CBs and hit them on the wings, but Berhalter won't ever move away from his decided tactics because he's a shit manager that can't adjust.
I have low expectations for this World Cup but that is only because I don't trust the manager. I think our talent is good enough for R16 or QF.
GGG is going to start Ferreira precisely for the reason you lay out as to why you want Reyna to play as a false 9. He likes that Ferreira will drop a little deeper to link up play and create space for the wingers to get in behind. The issue as noted by everyone is that this means that only one of Reyna, Weah and Aaronson can play in the front 3. GGG is playing his 4-3-3 with MMA in the midfield and has never before used any of Reyna, Weah or Aaronson as a false 9.

$7,400,00 each? Or total?

I just want to know how serious Qatar is about winning their opening match.

Listening to the football weekly podcasts by the guardian. Goes over each group, but also goes over different aspects of life in qatar at the end of each ep. It truly is a disgrace that this is happening in this god awful backwards ass country.

Budweiser pays 75 million to sponsor a world cup ...
They must be fuming

Apparently those with corporate hospitality tickets will still be able to drink beer inside the stadium. Those start at $19k a pop, so there's that.

Alcohol is prohibited! (Unless you're rich)

i mean, it's not like budweiser was sponsoring it to make money on WC beer sales

how much money are they losing for not having in-stadium sales? microscopic amount of their annual sales

Honestly, the publicity is probably good for business. I bet a bunch more people are going to go out and buy Budweiser to drink while watching the games to stand in solidarity with their corporate masters.

Yeah I feel a lot less bad for Budweiser than I do the fans that made the (probably stupid) decision to go to Qatar.

Fwiw, I have a buddy from HS who's a doctor and got into the community that volunteers for medical support at these big events. He's done a bunch of winter and summer Olympics and I think this is his third WC. Pretty sweet way to get yourself to these things for free, minus your airfare, for the whole event.

He got to Qatar yesterday and said that it's approaching 2016 Rio Olympics levels of bad with their provided living arrangements and that it's been a general cluster fuck so far.
